 PUNA GEOTHERMAL VENTURE ACTIVITIES HALTED
 PENDING FURTHER COURT PROCEEDINGS
SPARKS, Nev., April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- OESI Power Corp. (NASDAQ: OESI) announced today that the Third Circuit Court of the State of Hawaii, Judge Kimura presiding, entered an order staying Puna Geothermal Venture ("PGV") from conducting any activities at its geothermal power project site on the island of Hawaii which would emit hydrogen sulfide ("H2S") into the atmosphere, except safety and remedial measures necessary to prevent the release of H2S and safety measures necessary to protect the public. The order entered on Tuesday replaces an earlier temporary restraining order which halted all construction activities at the project site except safety and remedial measures for the past 16 days. The stay order will remain in effect until at least May 29, 1992, when Kimura has scheduled another hearing in the case. In the same order, the court also denied PGV's motion to dismiss the action on jurisdictional grounds, denied the opposing parties' motion for summary judgment against PGV and granted PGV's motion to allow an appeal of part of the order to the Hawaii Supreme Court.
The stay order does not prohibit PGV from engaging in construction activities such as equipment maintenance and testing which do not pose a danger of H2S emissions, nor is it expected to delay the implementation of new regulations governing H2S emissions which the Hawaii Department of Health recently released for public comment. The new H2S regulations, which are anticipated to become effective in June 1992, will serve to cure the defects in the agency permitting process which led to the issuance of the temporary restraining order and stay order by the Third Circuit Court.
