The volunteering event is designed to bring together parents and children in the spirit of giving. Families can join actress Jennie Garth to pack kits of food for local needy families.

``The program really focuses on getting families united,'' Garth said. A mother of two, Garth became Angel Soft's spokeswoman because of the event's mission to educate children.

``When kids volunteer, you see this switch that goes off inside. ... It's really magical to see them. They love to help other people. It's neat to see your kids do that.''

Also on hand will be volunteer expert Cathryn Berger Kaye and the Volunteer Center of Los Angeles to offer volunteering advice for families. Participants will also be encouraged to take the Angel Soft Million Family Service Pledge committing to volunteer together. A food drive and free prize giveaways are also scheduled.

``It's a win-win situation. You get time with your family, and giving back is teaching (children) the most valuable lessons in life,'' Garth said.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.angelsoft.com/angelsinaction.
