PULSE WORKOUT BOOKS CAN HELP YOU TURN OVER A NEW LEAF.

If your New Year's resolution A New Year's Resolution is a commitment that an individual makes to a project or a habit, often a lifestyle change that is generally interpreted as advantageous. The name comes from the fact that these commitments normally go into effect on New Year's Day and remain until the set  is to get in shape, but health club membership fees are a budget-breaker, try out these lose-it-yourself workout books:

TRAINER TO THE STARS: Gunnar Peterson has made A-list celebs Jennifer Lopez, Angelina Jolie and Kim Catrall sweat for years, and now he's written a book so that you can, too.

In ``G-Force: The Ultimate Guide to Your Best Body Ever'' (Regan Books; $26.95), Peterson, who has trained muscleman Sylvester Stallone, shares his philosophies on health and fitness success. His four ``F-words'' (function, foundation, freedom and focus) are the keys to his program. The book includes pictures of exercise positions, sample workout regimens and diet tips.

The book is packed with full-color photographs of Linguvic demonstrating exercises and movements. She breaks workout regimens into sections of the body (lower body, core, upper body) and by levels of progress, and you complete each level with a checklist of exercises.

Linguvic also provides readers with a six-week nutrition program that provides a sample food journal to keep track of eating habits.

FIT IN 15: If you are constantly on the go and don't have time for an hourlong workout, try out ``Quick Fit: The Complete 15-Minute No-Sweat Workout'' (Atria Atria
