HIGH-TECH BRUSHING: The Sonicare toothbrush advocates love to brag about how their electric brush cleans teeth via gentle sonic waves as the brush moves at a pace of 31,000 brush strokes Brush Strokes was an Esmonde and Larbey sitcom set in South London and depicting the (mostly) amorous adventures of a good-looking, wisecracking house painter, Jacko (Karl Howman).  per minute. Sounded like a gimmick to me, so I decided to take their 30-day challenge. I used a Sonicare brush twice a day for 30 days. I was impressed with the toothbrush. It left my teeth feeling cleaner, though in 30 days it did not rid my teeth of a few stubborn stains. My dental hygienist dental hygienist

gave my teeth a thumbs up, though it's been several years since I've had a cavity. He said the Sonicare brushes are more beneficial for people who do not practice good dental hygiene because the brush is on a timer that keeps it going for the dentist-recommended two minutes. It is also good for anyone with arthritis because the large handle is easier to grip than a regular toothbrush, he said. The Sonicare toothbrush comes in three models: Sonicare personal for a suggested retail price of $79.95; Sonicare advanced for $99.95; Sonicare Plus for $119.95. All models have a timer, the advanced and plus models have a ``quad pacer'' that prompts the user when to move from one area of the mouth to another. The plus model also comes with an extra travel head and case. They are available at retail outlets such as Macy's, Target, and Bed, Bath and Beyond. To find the location nearest you or for more information, visit the Web site at www.sonicare.com or call (800) 682-7664.
