PUBLIC FORUM.Progress: none Living here in Northridge, I am able to watch the progress being made on the repairs and upgrades of the swimming pool in Northridge Park. It is very reminiscent of the WPA WPA: see Work Projects Administration. If this work takes any longer (or should I say the lack of work), the kids in the area who benefit most from the pool will be collecting Social Security. The city seems to have no problem finding money to hand out to the illegals but when it comes to taking care of its own it always seems to come up short. Especially here in the Valley. -- Lawrence A. Calabro Northridge Flawed bill Re ``Getting it wrong'' (Our Opinion, June 23): Like most of our U.S. senators in Washington, apparently the Daily News editorial staff did not read the so-called ``comprehensive'' immigration immigration, entrance of a person (an alien) into a new country for the purpose of establishing permanent residence. Motives for immigration, like those for migration generally, are often economic, although religious or political factors may be very important. bill (S.2611) passed by the Senate. Thanks to Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions Jefferson Beauregard "Jeff" Sessions III (born December 24, 1946) is the junior United States Senator from Alabama. He is a member of the Republican Party. Early life Sessions was born in Selma, Alabama to Abbie Powe and Jefferson Beauregard Sessions, Jr. , and a few other Republican senators, the true content of this bill was exposed, including a requirement to consult with Mexico before building ``the wall'' along the Southern border. We applaud the House Republicans for planning to hold public hearings. Hopefully these public hearings will inform citizens how the Senate's flawed ``comprehensive'' bill would so negatively affect the USA. It is better to have no bill than to have one so destructive to our country. -- Elaine Machiko O'Connell Stevenson Ranch Stevenson Ranch, California (in the 91381 ZIP Code) is a Los Angeles County, USA, unincorporated community west of Santa Clarita a few miles south of Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park. The Stevenson Ranch fountain was redone in 2007. Burning issue Re ``Flag burning amendment fails by one vote'' (June 28): I am very disappointed that Sen. Feinstein voted to support an amendment to the Constitution banning flag burning. Her contention that it's conduct, not speech, is totally incorrect. The act of burning the flag is a statement of hatred for the government. It is part of the right to protest. Thousands of people sacrificed their lives to protect that right and all of our freedoms. What is even more disturbing is that the Senate spent its valuable time debating and voting on this issue. -- Don Evans Canoga Park Federal offense Let's see Let's See was a Canadian television series broadcast on CBC Television between September 6, 1952 to July 4, 1953. Re ``Not a comic strip'' (Your Opinions, June 27): Putting Mallard Fillmore on the editorial page is a good suggestion since it is an editorial cartoon. At least all the Daily News has is Mallard Fillmore on the comics page while the Times has five others like it. They dropped all the good stuff -- ``Rubes Rubes is a syndicated newspaper single panel cartoon created by Leigh Rubin in 1984.
