This is totally unfair to those who have obeyed our laws and waited for years to enter our country. I know that illegal aliens are basically decent people, but the fact remains that they still committed a criminal act by sneaking across our borders. I am certainly not against immigrants coming to our country, and they certainly have much to offer, but illegals should not be rewarded for breaking our laws. - Graydon Wayne Canyon Country After the election Re ``Hahn: Let Mexicans stay here,'' (Nov. 7): Does anyone believe James Hahn would have had the nerve to publicly advocate illegal immigrants be granted legal status before the election? It seems he had to be elected first before his true sentiments were shown to the electorate. - Jack Siebert West Hills Wasting money Re ``Senator critical of LAUSD LAUSD Los Angeles Unified School District (Los Angeles, CA) ,'' (Nov. 10): Caprice ca·price n. 1. a. So what if the other driver's car flag was a bit worn? The American flag has flown proudly all over the world, and in some instances, in much worse condition that you're likely to find on a car in California. I fly a flag on my car, and yes, it's a bit worn and tattered. Should I ever be subjected to Work's flag nagging, I would tell her that my flag, like my country, may be a bit beat up, but it's still in pretty damn good shape. - David Illig Granada Hills She's right I wanted to write and congratulate Anita Work for her contribution to the proper treatment of the American flag (Viewpoint, Nov. 4). I disagree with Verb 1. disagree with - not be very easily digestible; "Spicy food disagrees with some people" hurt - give trouble or pain to; "This exercise will hurt your back" Public Forum writers William O. Felsman and Pam Konyk. There is a proper etiquette to displaying the flag. And following the etiquette shows one's respect for the flag. The flag should not be treated as ``damn well please.'' I suppose Felsman would drive as he damn well pleased, without regard to other drivers on the road. No Felsman, there are rules and regulations about driving. And yes, there are rules and proper etiquette for displaying the flag. The display of flag is not a fashion statement. If you want to show your pride in the country and its symbol then one should take time to learn the proper display and the treatment of the flag. - Richard K. Yamauchi Sylmar Good for the Greek I'm glad to see the Recreation and Parks Commission finally move forward with renovation plans for the Greek Theatre. It has always been one of the best places in L.A. to see concerts. The size, sound and aesthetics of the place make it an enjoyable experience that, for many of us, signals the beginning of summer. By going with Nederlander, the city has a management group that appreciates the history of the venue and its place in the community. Clearly, the public debate led to a much better deal for the city. But maximizing income is only one concern. Fans of the Greek value its ambience and look forward to the improvements of this great venue. - Paul Kradin Studio City Got it wrong Re ``Public insecurity,'' (Editorial, Nov. 7): Once again, when it comes to understanding flexible work schedules for LAPD 1. It is especially outrageous for the Daily News to suggest that Mayor James Hahn or the Los Angeles Police Protective League would do anything to undermine public safety. It is precisely to address the lack of police officers on our streets that we advocate flexible work schedules - schedules that have been studied carefully and endorsed by experts. So, please, give our cops a break and do what's best for everyone: support flexible work schedules.
