PUBLIC FORUM TERROR'S BANKERS.

Now that the war with Iraq is almost over, let the coalition forces finish the job. Worldwide terrorism has to be wiped out. In order to do this, coalition forces should break the bankers in Saudi Arabia Saudi Arabia (sä`dē ərā`bēə, sou`–, sô–), officially Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, kingdom (2005 est. pop. . Because of oil and their ability to talk out of both sides of their mouth, our government has never regarded them as supporters of terrorism.

Saudi Arabia totally supports terrorism. Remember, the 9-11 terrorists were nearly all citizens of Saudi Arabia. While we have the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force now close to them, let us take one more week, say the hell with the 5 percent of our oil purchased from there, and finish this job once and for all.

Next new chant

Originally, because of 9-11, the target was the terrorist Osama bin Laden Osama bin Laden: see bin Laden, Osama. . ``Dead or Alive'' was the promise from President Bush. After carpet-bombing Afghanistan and coming up empty-handed, it was decided that Osama bin Laden didn't matter anymore.

The administration's sights switched to Iraq and ``Rid Iraq of their weapons of mass destruction'' was all we heard. When inspectors discovered no evidence, it was decided the weapons no longer mattered and they zeroed in on dictator Saddam Hussein Saddam Hussein

(born April 28, 1937, Tikrit, Iraq—died Dec. 30, 2006, Baghdad) President of Iraq (1979–2003). He joined the Ba'th Party in 1957. Following participation in a failed attempt to assassinate Iraqi Pres.
. Weeks into the war, and unable to find Hussein, it was decided he didn't matter either and the liberation of the Iraqi people became the important issue. ``Operation Iraqi Freedom'' was the new chant. I wonder what the next slogan will be ... and what will now matter next.

Doesn't just happen

The people of this country have become complacent. It's thought that freedom has just occurred - not been worked for. There is no such thing as fighting as an easy war. We, as Americans, have to support our government and believe our leaders will take us in the right direction.

The people who protest the war in Iraq don't remember how they got to the point where they could protest. It's very sad to watch these celebrities belittle be·lit·tle

the efforts of our forces. Especially when most of them never served in the military. This war should be fought and won. It is not a matter of domination, it is a matter of world peace. Anyone may make their own choice, the key words are ``Have you been there or done that.''

See the pattern?

Isn't it amazing how Syria has barely been mentioned in the prior two years of this administration, and now they are the next ``evil'' of the world? When we've won the war with Syria, I guess the rhetoric with Iran will begin. When we've won the war with Iran, then the rhetoric with Egypt can begin ... See a pattern?

Trivializing

What do you think a Saddam Hussein rookie card Rookie Card is a relatively subjective term generally referring to an athlete's first appearance on a trading card made for collectible or informational purposes. Collectors value more greatly these first appearances which generally hold more value than later, subsequent card  is worth? Men and women are dying for our country and the Bush administration creates a product that trivializes their efforts and will surely be available on the Internet as a collectible or at baseball card stores everywhere.

I'll remember

Re ``L.A. comes out against Saddam'' (April 12):

Now that our brave servicemen and -women have succeeded in freeing the Iraqi people the L.A. City Council votes to say it didn't like Saddam Hussein. To me this is too little, too late. When our men and women first went over there they gave aid and comfort to the enemy by voting their anti-war statement.

Well, for their future reference, I intend on being one who will remember who they were and intend to and will encourage others to vote them out of office. Why? Because, when the City Council first voted, from the beginning it was obvious that their vote did not reflect the opinions of the vast majority of their constituents.

Factual inaccuracies

Just a note to correct the factual inaccuracies of the know-it-alls in the April 15 Your Opinions. Lee Meyers: the cook you wrote about was not sent into combat. She was with a group of mechanics out to repair a disabled vehicle. Besides, in the name of gender equity, what's wrong with sending a woman into combat? Lawrence Daggi: Congress declared war against the Confederacy Confederacy, name commonly given to the Confederate States of America (1861–65), the government established by the Southern states of the United States after their secession from the Union. , the Kaiser and Japan. Almost all other wars were by presidential order, including the Marines' invasion of the so-called Tripoli pirates.

Not a contradiction

James Matthews (Your Opinions, April 16) writes that ``the expression 'moral war' is a contradiction in terms Noun 1. contradiction in terms - (logic) a statement that is necessarily false; "the statement `he is brave and he is not brave' is a contradiction"

.'' Oh, reeeeally? It seems as though Matthews' time of service for his country - with its attendant tragic loss of life - has severely clouded his moral thinking.

Let's use the most unambiguous example possible: World War II. Nothing could have been more moral than our going to war to stop the butchery of Hitler and Tojo. The term moral war is hardly a contradiction in terms; in fact, sometimes war is the only moral option to save the lives of innocents.

Pfc. not PC

A few letters both in the Daily News and in L.A.'s other newspaper, along with a couple of calls to local talk radio, show feelings ranging from contempt to hostility toward rescued POW Jessica Lynch Jessica Dawn Lynch (born April 26, 1983 in Palestine, West Virginia) is a former Quartermaster Corps Private First Class (PFC) in the United States Army. Lynch became famous after her widely publicized recovery by U.S. special operations forces. .

I have to wonder if that same contempt/hostility would be there if it was Pfc. Jessica Lynch from a well-to-do suburb or an inner-city neighborhood, and not Pfc. Jessica Lynch from rural West Virginia West Virginia, E central state of the United States. April 9 was a day of joy and sorrow. Joy on the streets of Baghdad and sorrow on the streets like Wilshire Boulevard Wilshire Boulevard is one of the principal east-west arterial roads in Los Angeles, California, United States. It was named for H. Gaylord Wilshire (1861-1927), an Ohio native who made and lost fortunes in real estate, farming, and gold mining. . Joy as the statues of Saddam fall and sorrow as the jaws of anti-war protesters fell watching the Iraqis waving their American flags. Now the question: Is Saddam dead or alive? As Jimmy Durante used to say in closing, ``Goodnight, Mrs. Calabash calabash

Very American

Joan Olear (Your Opinions, April 16) makes a fundamental mistake about the First Amendment's ``Freedom of speech'' clause when she asks, ``What part of the sentence does it say you can have freedom of speech only if you agree with me?'' The Constitution specifies that the people can speak freely without fear of retribution from the governments of America.

Anyone who wishes to voice their opinion accepts the risk of legal retribution from other citizens. The big-name performers are given a platform to speak because of their status; the average citizen doesn't have the opportunity to voice their views on television news shows, their only option is to boycott whom they disagree with. It is very American.
