PUBLIC FORUM LOSE, LOSE SITUATION.

Re ``Hahn will join debate'' (Nov. 19):

In joining the debate, Mayor James Hahn For the Iowa politician, see .

James Kenneth "Jim" Hahn (born July 3, 1950) is an American politician from the Democratic Party. He was the Deputy City Attorney (1975-1979), City Controller (1981-1985), City Attorney (1985-2001) and Mayor of Los Angeles, California
has admitted you can run but you can't hide. He was in a lose-lose situation. Stay away and have mud slung at your back, or stand up and have egg all over your face. His real problem is, he's been a terrible mayor. He beat secession with lies and illegal campaign contributions, he's constantly being associated with fraud and pay-for-play scandals, and he's been stabbing the Valley voters in the back at every turn.

Name identification, and a huge war chest will see him through the March primary, but he will lose the runoff to whomever whom·ev·er

Heads must roll

DWP Dynamic Weapon Pricing (gamin, Counter-Strike: Source)

Heads must roll, some of them all the way to prison, including those who were involved in this trashing of the taxpayers but are now retired. Their pensions should hang in the balance.

Criminal acts have been committed, and some drastic lessons must be taught if L.A. is going to climb out of its deep cesspool cesspool: see septic tank. . Does any department of this city have clean hands freedom from guilt, esp. from the guilt of dishonesty in money matters, or of bribe taking.

Cigarette tax

Re ``Taxed for nothing?'' (Nov. 14):

Looks like the 50-cents-a-pack tax that Rob Reiner Robert "Rob" Reiner (born March 6, 1945) is an American actor, director, producer, writer, children's advocate and political activist. As an actor, Reiner first came to national prominence as Archie Bunker's and Edith Baines-Bunker's son-in-law, Michael "Meathead" Stivic, on  and his cronies foisted on the public is not doing much for the preschool children. Respect and dignity

Reaction to verdict

My outrage with the Scott Peterson situation is not because of the verdict, which was justified, but rather the appalling cruelty of the crowd that jeered the Peterson family as they left the court. This family is suffering indescribable pain and sadness (along with the Rochas) and did not need these morons shouting at them. These people should look within themselves before casting the first stone.

No comparison

After reading Myrna Bixler's and Alan Toffel's letters re the Scott Peterson verdict, my question to them is: What does O.J. have to do with Scott Peterson?

Boogie's back

Re ``Boogie, lost parrot, is home again'' (Nov. 18):

Hurray! I really appreciate that you stayed on this story and published the happy ending. Pets, both small and large, are a responsibility. Much like children they depend on their owners, (parents), not only to care for their needs but also their safety. However, unlike children, who eventually grow up and learn how to take care of themselves, pets remain our children.

I am so glad that the Santa Clarita woman returned Boogie, and that Rick has learned from the experience. I hope that the lesson in this story, as well as that of Rob Snyder's macaw macaw: see parrot.

Combat decision

Re ``War rules don't apply to terror'' (Their Opinions, Nov. 18):

You can go to the books to verify my personal ``combat'' experience. And drawing from this personal perspective, I'll give you odds that not a single one of the media creeps calling for this Marine's head ever had to make a decision in the face of death at the hands of an enemy combatant Captured fighter in a war who is not entitled to prisoner of war status because he or she does not meet the definition of a lawful combatant as established by the geneva convention; a saboteur.

The U.S.
.

There is a system in place for these situations. It is called the Uniform Code of Military Justice The Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) was enacted by Congress in 1950 (10 U.S.C.A. § 801 et seq.) to establish a standard set of procedural and substantive criminal laws for all the U.S. military services. (It went into effect the following year. . And it seems that there just aren't any media people out there who ever lived under that system, so it doesn't seem to me that there is any need for these whiners' opinions. If you haven't faced this kind of life-and-death situation, give this Marine the benefit of the doubt and let the UCMJ An abbreviation for the Uniform Code of Military Justice (10 U.S.C.A. § 801 et seq.).  run its course.

Shooting prisoners

The Nov. 19 Daily News again is filled with letters in support of our Marine's shooting of an unarmed wounded Iraqi insurgent INSURGENT. One who is concerned in an insurrection. He differs from a rebel in this, that rebel is always understood in a bad sense, or one who unjustly opposes the constituted authorities; insurgent may be one who justly opposes the tyranny of constituted authorities. . Two hundred and twenty-four years ago the British commander Banistair Carleton was chasing American guerrillas through South Carolina South Carolina, state of the SE United States. It is bordered by North Carolina (N), the Atlantic Ocean (SE), and Georgia (SW). Facts and Figures

and earning his nickname ``Bloody Carleton'' by executing prisoners and showing no mercy. He was defended and even praised in the British press because after all he was fighting ``rebels'' (and insurgents Insurgents, in U.S. history, the Republican Senators and Representatives who in 1909–10 rose against the Republican standpatters controlling Congress, to oppose the Payne-Aldrich tariff and the dictatorial power of House speaker Joseph G. Cannon. ) who fired from behind trees and who would not fight conventionally. Fortunately his tactics only inspired the rebels to fight harder.

The point? Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it and we seem to be repeating it quite nicely.

Three-strikes law

Re ``Fitting punishment'' (Your Opinions, Nov. 12):

Lyndell Brown says we would be better off if judges could be trusted to make judgments without releasing the most vile criminals. The severity of the crime for which an habitual offender gets caught the third time is not a reliable indication of how vile a criminal he actually is.

About taking a driver's license away for 20 years of speeding, I say that if a person habitually gets speeding tickets, he should have his license taken away. I don't think it would be fair for Brown to take my driver's license away just because he assumes that I have been habitually speeding. I am 87 years old and have had only one speeding ticket; that was when I was 19 years old.

Explain Bush's backers

Re ``Extremist positions'' (Your Opinions, Nov. 18):

Maria Chaidez says Kerry supporters are extremists. So, Chaidez, explain how some of Bush's supporters are not extremists. If it's more important to stop same-sex marriage, as you suggest, and extreme to be concerned with loss of life, jobs, Social Security and health care, then, Chaidez, I am proud to be called an extremist.

Who is more extreme?

Re ``Extremist positions'' (Your Opinions, Nov. 18):

Maria Chaidez refers to the following as ``extremist positions'': permitting gay marriage, liberal abortion laws and ``judges that allow God not to be mentioned in the Pledge of Allegiance Pledge of Allegiance, in full, Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, oath that proclaims loyalty to the United States. and its national symbol. .''

Apparently her ``moderate'' positions are denying equal rights for gays, a total ban on abortion and allowing government to make religious views the official position of the government. Who is really the extremist?

Who's stupid?

Jeff Foxworthy, not the press nor the politicians, should be appointed to sort out the overgeneralized claim that Bush voters are ``stupid'' and those calling them stupid are ``effete ef·fete

intellectuals.'' You don't have to be an intellectual to figure out things like ``no connection between Iraq and 9-11.''

But only the likes of a Foxworthy can ferret out the truly stupid and the truly intellectual. He might put it like this: ``You might be stupid if the reason you voted for Bush is because you think he knows what it's like to be poor.''
