PUBLIC FORUM JUST WANT OUT.

To quote Carole Wade (Public Forum, March 12), ``We live in and love Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  and don't want a divorce.'' It is interesting that Carole would quote Abraham Lincoln because for this situation he had an agenda and maybe she does too. She should have gone back a little further in our history.

Our Founding Fathers wanted separation from Great Britain Great Britain, officially United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, constitutional monarchy (2005 est. pop. 60,441,000), 94,226 sq mi (244,044 sq km), on the British Isles, off W Europe. The country is often referred to simply as Britain.  because King George King George has referred to many kings throughout history. When used, by Americans, without further reference it most often means George III of the United Kingdom, against whom the Whigs of the American Revolution rebelled.  III was a real stinker. He would not listen to reason and had the Parliament enact numerous laws to the detriment of the colonies, much like the L.A. City Council does to the Valley. Make the comparison. It is very simple, folks, we Valleyites are tired of a City Council that doesn't listen and tired of being the cash cow Cash Cow

Time to play hardball

I love Los Angeles. The time has come for all good people who love our great city to stand up and be counted. The time has come to issue a declaration of war against Richard Close and his ragtag rag·tag
adj.
1. Shaggy or unkempt; ragged.

2. Diverse and disorderly in appearance or composition: "They're a small ragtag army of racketeers, bandits, and murderers"
 band of cantankerous can·tan·ker·ous
adj.
1. Ill-tempered and quarrelsome; disagreeable: disliked her cantankerous landlord.

2.
flibbertigibbets who advocate secession. In my opinion, secession is the most fatuous and cockamamie proposal to ``come down the pike'' in a long time.

It is time for those who love Los Angeles to play hardball. I urge the city attorney, as well as the Local Agency Formation Commission, to terminate water, power and sewer service to the Valley - they must exhaust every legal means to put an end to to destroy.

Let's have facts

In his March 10 Viewpoint column on Assemblywoman Fran Pavley's bill to reduce CO2 emissions, Eric Peters has resorted to useless rhetoric and oversimplification o·ver·sim·pli·fy
v. o·ver·sim·pli·fied, o·ver·sim·pli·fy·ing, o·ver·sim·pli·fies

Although there appear to be uncertainties in the relationship between increased carbon dioxide carbon dioxide, chemical compound, CO2, a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas that is about one and one-half times as dense as air under ordinary conditions of temperature and pressure.  and global warming, it is a fact that human-induced concentration of atmospheric CO2 has increased over the past century.

It is also a fact the U.S. has taken a singular exception to the Kyoto Treaty to reduce CO2 emissions, in spite of the fact that we are the largest producers/releasers of CO2. I would prefer Peters to provide constructive input to the bill so that we do not repeat the faults of the early 1990s electric car initiative instead of belching belching

Bush's word

Re ``CO2 bill would drive state into Third World'' (Opinion, March 11):

Eric Peters' attack on Assemblywoman Fran Pavley's thoughtful bill to reduce CO2 vehicle exhaust is founded on fantasy. Peters apparently got his facts from the SUV lobby. I got mine from the Web page of the Bush administration's EPA EPA eicosapentaenoic acid.

EPA

EPA,

EPA,

: ``Scientists know for certain that human activities are changing the composition of Earth's atmosphere.''

Also, according to George W. Bush's EPA, the most recent scientific evidence concludes ``the observed warming trend is 'unlikely to be entirely natural in origin.' '' Significantly, ``There is new and stronger evidence that most of the warming observed over the last 50 years is attributable to human activity.'' On this one, I'll take Bush at his word.

Wonderful tribute

I appreciated the Daily News' March 12 front-page picture of the twin lights memorial in New York City New York City: see New York, city.

City (pop., 2000: 8,008,278), southeastern New York, at the mouth of the Hudson River. The largest city in the U.S.
. What a wonderful tribute to those thousands of Americans who perished on Sept. 11. As a nation, our hearts are broken and our spirits are subdued as we reflect with great sadness this senseless tragedy that has been wrought on our beloved nation. In this solemn hour I am reminded of John Adams, who said ``People and nations are forged in the fires of adversity.'' God bless America.

Spousal abuse

I agree with Harlan Campbell 100 percent (Public Forum, March 11). After reading a synopsis of Russell Yates' testimony, I believe he should be charged with extreme spousal mental abuse and severe child endangerment. In his testimony, he told of moving from a converted bus bought from an itinerant preacher to a house in 1999. His wife, Andrea, was under the care of a psychiatrist after attempting suicide twice. ``At time, we didn't know whether she'd ever recover, but if she did recover, there would be more space for home-schooling.'' Russell Yates is a selfish, unfeeling, cruel, warped, disgusting individual and should be put away for life.

Radical procedures

I have several friends who teach at the elementary level. They routinely spend their own money on supplies for the children. I'm wondering how much the six-figure Los Angeles Unified School District The Los Angeles Unified School District (the "LAUSD") is the largest (in terms of number of students) public school system in California and the second-largest in the United States. Only the New York City Department of Education has a larger student population.  elite spend on kids. My guess is zero.

I'm wondering if their kids, or grandkids, go to public schools or if my tax money is sending the LAUSD LAUSD Los Angeles Unified School District (Los Angeles, CA)  elite's offspring to schools with air conditioning, individual desks, individual books, no-leak roofs, etc. Cancer is usually treated by radical procedures. Let's do the same with the LAUSD elite.

Just say no

How about this solution to the Ahmanson Ranch argument? Ahmanson was approved by Ventura County in Ventura County, but is unwanted by the residents mostly in Los Angeles County. The Newhall Ranch project was proposed/approved by L.A. County in L.A. County and opposed mostly by Ventura County. Just say no to both and be done with it.

Middle East peace

What does the Bush administration think it is going to accomplish by sending Vice President Dick Cheney; his wife, Lynne; and Anthony Zinni to the Middle East? In past months, Zinni was practically tossed out of that area, and I'm terribly worried about the anti-American sentiment that might surface when Cheney arrives.

All the world asks for in that region is peace, so that the children can grow up safely, without AK-47s, missiles, rock-throwing and suicide bombers. A few years ago, people could actually visit the unholy Holy Land. Now, it's all in ruin. Pray for peace.

No apologies

How can we condemn the death of Daniel Pearl when our own Donald Rumsfeld said he would offer no apologies for killing innocent people in Afghanistan. Is Rumsfeld telling the world that we are returning to the same savagery that we showed the American Indians?

SAG awards

Among the photos of those adorable luminaries of the silver and TV screens taken at the Screen Actors Guild awards The Screen Actors Guild Awards are an annual award given by the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) to recognize outstanding performances by members.

SAG Awards have been one of the major awards events in Hollywood since 1995.

A terse summation of Tinseltown, to say the least.
