PUBLIC FORUM JUST THE FACTS.Re ``Toilet to tap'' (Nov. 17): We taxpayers have anted up tens of millions of dollars to build the Hyperion Plant for the express purpose of recycling recycling, the process of recovering and reusing waste products—from household use, manufacturing, agriculture, and business—and thereby reducing their burden on the environment. our water. For what? To pour it on the ground? The article offers absolutely no scientific analysis of the recycled water. I couldn't care less about what Gerald Silver or Charles Brink have to say. I want to know what a qualified unbiased analysis of the recycled water is compared with the current water supply and conventional purity standards. Then I can form an educated opinion. If the recycled water doesn't meet the intended standards, then someone has to held accountable. By the way, every drop of water in the world is toilet-to-tap if you think about it. - Scott Wilkerson La Tuna Canyon The highest bidder HIGHEST BIDDER, contracts. Hey, check the numbers. Gray Davis spends $68 million on his campaign for governor. Gray Davis wins by 312,068 votes with 2,582,897 votes cast in his favor. That means he spent $26.32 per vote. Do we need political reform? Yes - or we'll all continue to be prostitutes going to the highest bidder. Now just days after the election we find out that the state budget, which Davis downplayed until after the election, shows we're up to our butts in debt - for billions for the next six years, at least. But he never really admitted this. A question to you who voted for Gray Davis: Just how bad does it have to get before you start thinking about your future? - Walter Esser Van Nuys Like they said As a Democrat, I'm enjoying all the whining and bellyaching coming from the right as regards to the re-election of Gray Davis as our governor. I can only say what was said to us Democrats when George W. Bush was sworn in as our president: ``Get over it.'' - Tarleton X. Garton Lancaster It's regrettable In the Nov. 15 Your Opinion, Arnie Moore asked us to ``move on ... (without the whining).'' With all due respect, if all of L.A. were like Sherman Oaks, I'd be happy to. Unfortunately, it's not. I voted for secession because of the positive impact it would have in areas like the Northeast Valley and South Central L.A. Sherman Oaks has a visible police presence, good streets, and the power to bring benefits in. Other areas are not so fortunate. It's regrettable the mayor was able to deceive TO DECEIVE. But Tokofsky immediately understood that 403b is a benefit that could be used to help solve the LAUSD's persistent recruitment problem at no cost to taxpayers or the district. Parents, just say ``no'' to the Los Angeles Unified School District The Los Angeles Unified School District (the "LAUSD") is the largest (in terms of number of students) public school system in California and the second-largest in the United States. We enrolled in a California Charter School years ago and have never even looked back. - Vicki Van Camp Sylmar Parents' role Re ``Teachers faced with society's problems in class'' (Opinion, Nov. 19): Children start learning at home first. Parents are responsible to educate them to have respect for others, proper behavior at home and in public, accepting discipline when warranted, etc. Teachers are not baby sitters. They are there to educate children to attain success at school. They are trained to give their students the education needed to advance to higher levels of understanding, knowledge and performance. The LAUSD has a tremendous role in this. As schools are built to accommodate our ever-increasing student population, they must take steps to hire only the best trained educators, pay them a respectable salary and give them a proper place to do their job. - Nelson Leverage Northridge Freeway traffic solution I read that the Metropolitan Transit Authority has ``solutions'' to improve traffic along the freeways. Thanks to Jerry Brown's darling Adrianna Gianturco who had the ``brilliant'' idea of forcing diamond lanes onto our citizens and thus losing additional lanes and clogging up our freeways even more, we are stuck with traffic flow that is nothing short of a disaster. I am positive it has never occurred to the MTA that the logical solution would be to give those very much needed additional lanes back to the drivers. But no - that solution is much too obvious. - Graydon Wayne Canyon Country No plot The Valley and the entire L.A.
