PUBLIC FORUM HE DONE HER WRONG.Re ``Frey tells of intense courtship'' (Aug. 11): If there's anyone I feel sorry for at this moment it's Scott Peterson's ``mistress'' Amber Frey Amber Dawn Frey Hernandez (born February 10, 1975) is an American woman who came to national prominence as the girlfriend of, and later as a prosecution witness against, Scott Peterson during the well publicized investigation into the disappearance of his wife Laci Peterson in . Here is a healthy, attractive, single-parent woman who did what millions of other women do every day: look for someone to love who will love her in return. And, with a child to raise, possibly a little more vulnerable than some. Unfortunately, Frey hooks up with a lying Scott Peterson

If the buses control the traffic signals as they cross our north-south streets, as per the number of buses projected by the MTA, it will have a bus crossing every 1 1/2 minutes. This will cause a massive delay in traffic. Of the 13 new stations, only four will have any parking available. How are people supposed to get to the station so that they can use the busway? The beautiful landscaped right-of-way. Until the citizens demanded it, the plan was to only have irrigated areas at the stations and the remainder of the right-of-way would be natural. In Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, , this is called dirt. Finally, I am not NIMBY, as it is not near me and as I am retired, the delays that it will cause will not affect me. - Gene Hardy Gene Hardy is a Canadian multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. Valley Glen Stop NIMBYs now Re ``Attack of the NIMBYs'' (Aug. 5): I agree 100 percent with the Daily News editorial on the Orange Line that the halt on its construction by NIMBYs is selfish. These people have thwarted efforts for rapid transit rapid transit, transportation system designed to allow passenger travel within or throughout an urban area, usually employing surface, elevated, or underground railway systems or some combination of these. in the Valley for too long. It's time It's Time was a successful political campaign run by the Australian Labor Party (ALP) under Gough Whitlam at the 1972 election in Australia. Campaigning on the perceived need for change after 23 years of conservative (Liberal Party of Australia) government, Labor put forward a for the rest of the Valley to get together and file an injunction against them so that the busway can be completed. The idea that Rapid buses would do a better job than the Orange Line is ludicrous. All one has to do is check the rush hour commute times of the Rapid buses which are currently operating on Ventura Boulevard Ventura Boulevard is one of the primary east-west thouroughfares in the San Fernando Valley; as it was originally a part of the El Camino Real (the trail between Spanish missions), Ventura Boulevard is the oldest route in the San Fernando Valley. It was also U.S. and other East-West streets to see how much time is saved over a regular bus operating on these already clogged streets. The other major advantage of the Orange Line was that it terminated at the Red Line subway terminal. We need to stop the NIMBYs now. - Anthony Dolce dol·ce Music adv. & adj. Van Nuys It's a train In case no one clued COST spokeswoman Diana Lipari in, Southern Pacific freight trains previously traveled this route. Did her research produce evidence that buses are more ``dangerous'' than trains? It is possible that she does not know what train tracks look like. - Mindy Tennen Valley Village Project reeks I have objected to the busway from the beginning. Although I do not live in the Valley, I pay taxes in California and consider the busway to be the least cost-effective way of achieving the objectives for which it was designed. The addition of a rapid bus on East-West Boulevards, such as Victory, could accomplish the same ends at a tenth of the cost. The bus riders most in need of this service live north of the busway and will be denied easy access to it. This project reeks of pork-barrel politics. - Bill Robins Los Angeles Open primaries Re ``Political parties resort to fear on Prop. 62'' (Viewpoint, Aug. 8): This is a solution in search of a problem. That's a big supposition, to begin with, with nothing to back it up. Further, I'm not sure increasing the turnout of ill-informed voters who don't make the time or effort to learn about issues is such a great thing. The upcoming L.A. mayoral election is a good example of the probable outcome: five liberal Democrats running for the office, without a Republican in sight. No thanks. - Brian Baker Saugus Changing your mind So what's the big deal about Sen. John Kerry's ``flip-flopping?'' How many times has everyone reading this newspaper made a decision, only to realize later that it was a mistake and changed their mind? As an independent, I personally will take a flip-flopper any day over someone who makes a wrong decision and stubbornly sticks to it. - Jack Wollard Sunland Moral relativism The philosophized notion that right and wrong are not absolute values, but are personalized according to the individual and his or her circumstances or cultural orientation. John Kerry. I am a life-long Republican whose party has been unprecedentedly disgraced by disregard for the truth by a man who campaigned for election repeatedly inferring that he had more ``integrity.'' - John Thomson North Hollywood Arnold and education Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, in his latest move, is doing more to dismantle our system of education than one could even imagine. In his just-released California Performance Review, he is once again proposing drastic changes in our system of education that would delay the start of kindergarten for our youngest citizens. He is also advocating the repeal of SB 1419, which would threaten workers' rights, and give the governor almost complete control over education instead of the in-place elected officials. In-place labor agreements would be null and void, as would the prevailing wage laws if this succeeds. The privacy of student records could also be threatened. It appears to me that Schwarzenegger is trying to make this state another right to work state and get rid of the unions. - Carolyn Whitehead Canyon Country |
