PUBLIC FORUM ELECT THEM ALL.

Re ``Recall free-for-all'' (Sept. 25):

The recall candidates' debate was the most entertaining reality TV I've seen in years. I like things about them all. Here's a thought: Instead of having one emperor with no clothes, couldn't we just vote for ``all of the above'' and they could provide their own checks and balances and compromises? Just like a good marriage helps the entire family.

Don't do it

Re ``Recall free-for-all'' (Sept. 25):

I submit the following suggested slogan on the recall. Californians - don't shoot yourself in the foot! Vote no on the recall.

Definitely a loser

Wednesday's governor debate may not have had any clear-cut winners, but there was definitely a loser: Gov. Gray Davis. Each of the five candidates touched on all of what ails California, from immigration immigration, entrance of a person (an alien) into a new country for the purpose of establishing permanent residence. Motives for immigration, like those for migration generally, are often economic, although religious or political factors may be very important. , taxation, the leadership vacuum and the economy to health care - all of which Gov. Gray Davis has been asleep at the switch for in the past five-plus years.

A yes vote on the recall is a must if we're to begin turning this state around. Let's start now.

The real definitions

Re ``Suit filed against same-sex legislation'' (Sept. 23):

State Sen. William ``Pete'' Knight is quoted as saying, ``The bill changes the definition of marriage. It changes the definition of family.'' Here are the definitions, according to according to
prep.
1. As stated or indicated by; on the authority of: according to historians.

2. In keeping with: according to instructions.

3.
Webster's: ``marriage, n. the legal union of two people in wedlock, ... family, n. a group of people connected by blood or marriage.''

Simple, straightforward, to the point, and I didn't see anything anywhere about sex. Why is this even an issue? Don't we have larger issues both globally as well as locally to focus on? This is just another frivolous lawsuit in a long line of them, a waste of our Superior Court's time on what should by now be a dead issue. Why are people still trying to control who their neighbors choose to love?

Supports tax increase

Re `` Expect sales tax sales tax, levy on the sale of goods or services, generally calculated as a percentage of the selling price, and sometimes called a purchase tax. The proposed tax would be 10 cents on a $20 meal, or $100 on a $20,000 automobile purchase. The value received will be permanent infrastructure. Valley benefits

``Expect sales tax increase on ballot in '04'' (Their Opinions, Sept. 23) was lacking only in how many benefits there are to the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

Valley, southern California, U.S. Northwest of central Los Angeles, the valley is bounded by the San Gabriel, Santa Susana, and Santa Monica mountains and the Simi Hills.
. In particular, the critical north-south Valley Rapidways that will link to the future east-west Valley Rapidway (currently under construction) will be funded by SB 314.

Furthermore, the 405 freeway's HOV (car-pool) lanes funded by SB 314 will be an excellent way for Valley residents to access the Westside, LAX and the rest of the county. Finally, resuming the decades-overdue L.A. subway system to Fairfax not only allows Valley residents more access to the Westside, it restores hope for those of us who want a Ventura Boulevard subway to be built within our lifetimes.

Protecting us from evil

Re ``Miscikowski responds'' (Your Opinions, Sept. 22):

With all due respect to Councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski and the other City Council members, I thank you for looking out for our morality and protecting us adults from the evils of the licensed strip clubs. As I recall, was this not the Los Angeles City Council The Los Angeles City Council is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States.  who had to enact a Code of Ethics Code of Ethics can refer to:

In her response, Miscikowski listed a number of requirements that would be imposed on these establishments and how this would aid the police in making the neighborhoods safer. If community safety is really a concern of the councilwoman and her associates, they would direct these rules and regulations to the LAUSD LAUSD Los Angeles Unified School District (Los Angeles, CA)  and the LAPD 1. Outrageous and unbecoming

Regarding the war with Iraq, I agree with Sen. Edward Kennedy's statements that ``There was no imminent threat'' and that ``This whole thing was a fraud'': For the leading democratic nation in the world to wage an aggressive war, based on a presumption or hearsay hearsay: see evidence.  from the U.K. of an imminent threat, is outrageous and unbecoming of its leadership. We now find ourselves in this present situation, which is indefinite in time, adverse and costly.

It is doubtful whether a potential ulterior motive, undisclosed to the citizens, will make the military actions taken justifiable. We are losing precious lives on a daily basis, in an unwarranted undertaking, contrary to a situation where it would be inevitable, such as in the defense of the Homeland.

Israeli retaliations

Re ``Call it terrorism'' (Your Opinions, Sept. 18):

Yes, innocent people are being killed in the Middle East - both Jews and Muslims. You neglect to mention that the people targeted by the Israelis are men responsible for bombing university cafeterias, school buses, kids in pizza parlors and the elderly. People who plant bombs on civilians are terrorists. The Israelis are forced to retaliate and sometimes harm bystanders, which is a tragedy. We Americans are doing the same thing in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The United States does not take a one-sided position that favors Israel. We have financially supported the Palestinians. The United States has arm-twisted Israel into giving back territory that was won after failed Arab attacks. Israel has a right to defend itself, like any other country.

Saving a buck

Re ``Man loses $1,400 in computer scam'' (Briefly, Sept. 18):

Had to comment on the man who was scammed out of his money while trying to buy laptop computers in a parking lot. He wants us to feel sorry for him? Does he want us to believe he didn't know these would be stolen items?

Sorry, he got what he deserved! He wanted to save a buck on someone else's misfortune and got stuck himself. Toooooo bad. If people were not available to buy stolen goods, it wouldn't profit to steal.

Valley drivers

Most Valley drivers could easily qualify for the Daytona 500. They demonstrate this every day on our surface streets. But, in the smart-driver department, they leave a lot to be desired. They race at 50 to 70 mph between traffic signals - refusing to let up when the light ahead changes to red - and jam on their brakes at the last second; they then sit there with engines idling (the lowest gas-mileage condition).

Their illegal speeds, long idling times and jack rabbit jack rabbit
