PUBLIC FORUM CIVIL LIBERTIES.

Re ``County seal may be altered'' (June 3):

I urge all citizens of L.A. County to support Supervisors Michael Antonovich and Don Knabe Donald R. Knabe (born October 15, 1943 in Illinois) is a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, serving the Fourth District, a crescent shaped district that covers the coastline from Marina Del Rey southward to Long Beach, and southeastern Los Angeles County to  to fight the ACLU ACLU: see American Civil Liberties Union. . You would think an organization that is the keeper of civil liberties would have bigger fish to fry than a simple cross on a county seal.

When are they going to get all the references to God removed from American currency? I think enough is enough. It is time to put this organization in its place. As a resident and employee of L.A. County, I do not feel my civil liberties are at risk when I see that seal. If you feel the way I do, speak up and be heard.

I appeal to all Christians to recognize that their sacred faith continues to be under attack. Stand true and speak forth the truth at every opportunity.

Also sacred

The design of the new California quarter omitted the film industry and the Gold Rush.

Now they want to take the cross out of the Los Angeles County Seal. In place of the cross there should be a depiction of a swirl of film. The film industry is as sacred as the cross to California and the world.

Legal immigration immigration, entrance of a person (an alien) into a new country for the purpose of establishing permanent residence. Motives for immigration, like those for migration generally, are often economic, although religious or political factors may be very important.

Re ``New license bill proposed'' (June 2):

When my family came to the U.S. in 1948 from Canada, we were on a waiting list for two years. We all had to have a complete physical, chest X-rays, etc., and a financial statement. My Aunt Mary sponsored us and had to sign a paper stating that if my father did not find work, she would support the four of us for five years.

My brother became a citizen when he served four years in the Air Force. Mom, Dad and I took tests and became citizens as soon as it was legal for us to do so. Bottom line - undocumented immigrant means illegal. What part of illegal does Sacramento not understand?

More and more

Re ``New license bill proposed'' (June 2):

Why is it that our public officials do not understand that the greater public does not want the people who violated our laws rewarded with driver's licenses? If you are here illegally then you should be deported, not be granted special privileges. Our schools, our highways, our hospitals and our jails are overrun with these same illegals now. The more privileges that are given, the more that will come.

We have enough people now; we do not need more. Businesses may be getting cheap labor but the general public is paying the price in overcrowding overcrowding

overcrowding of animal accommodation. Many countries now publish codes of practice which define what the appropriate volumetric allowances should be for each species of animal when they are housed indoors. Breaches of these codes is overcrowding.

It's a free market?

A car company can move its factories to Mexico and claim it's a free market. A toy company can outsource to a Chinese subcontractor and claim it's a free market. A major bank can incorporate in Bermuda to avoid taxes and claim it's a free market. We can buy HP Printers made in Mexico. We can buy shirts made in Bangladesh.

We can purchase almost anything we want from many different countries but heaven help the elderly who dare to buy their prescription drugs from a Canadian or Mexican pharmacy. That's called un-American. And you think the pharmaceutical companies don't have a powerful lobby? Think again.

Gang crisis

Re ``Gang violence crisis'' (June 2):

Los Angeles has awakened to the fact that they have an overwhelming gang problem, which residents have known for some time. You may want to ask, what did the city do? The city spent a lot of money on fairy tale fairy tale

Simple narrative typically of folk origin dealing with supernatural beings. Fairy tales may be written or told for the amusement of children or may have a more sophisticated narrative containing supernatural or obviously improbable events, scenes, and personages
projects, which were one big flop after the other, with very little results for the huge failure to change these kids.

Was it worth the tax money, which could have been used for what the city really needs - more police to curb the gangs whose killings have soared in the last few years? Being a product of Los Angeles and having grown up in Los Angeles, I have seen the gang problem firsthand. The best plan to help rid the city of gangs is to place as many gang members that can be rounded up and put them on an island by themselves.

It's a crime

Re ``Recycling thieves'' (Your Opinions, June 1):

Larry Sheppard took the words right out of my - maybe even our - collective mouths. Our first recycle bins were small and yellow and carried a warning that it was stealing to remove items from bins on trash day. Why didn't that continue? Also it seems that the recycling leadership owes us a federal tax break for this activity.

Police and sheriff's officers encountering these thieves never arrest them, they just return the items back to a nearby bin and advise the perps that it was stealing, then send them on their way. Now it's time It's Time was a successful political campaign run by the Australian Labor Party (ALP) under Gough Whitlam at the 1972 election in Australia. Campaigning on the perceived need for change after 23 years of conservative (Liberal Party of Australia) government, Labor put forward a  to take it a step further and transfer these people to the nearest city or county recycling center for a day's work (Naut.) the account or reckoning of a ship's course for twenty-four hours, from noon to noon.

Israeli tactics

In light of the ``credible evidence'' that there may be a terrorist attack somewhere in America, we are given a phone number to call, advised to be vigilant, and look for signs of anything out of the ordinary. We were not told the specifics of what to look for. Should we look for unattended packages/backpacks, etc., on buses, in shopping malls, movie theaters, amusement parks This page contains a list of amusement parks by
  • region, and
  • links to amusement parks listed alphabetically, beginning with the name of the park. The size of the list has required it to be broken into separate pages:
, sporting events, etc.? Should we report groups of Middle Eastern men who have little or no obvious baggage or furniture who take temporary accommodations in motels and apartments?

This may be a good time to adopt some of the anti-terrorist tactics of the Israelis, since many experts in terrorism believe that there's a high likelihood of attacks on ``soft'' targets in America.

Gas mystery

I don't get the price of gasoline these days. If the price of crude went up yesterday, the price at the pump today is higher to account for the rise.

What I don't get is that if the price of crude went down yesterday, the price at the pump does not show that drop for at least a week or two. In all my travels (a play on words play on words
