PUBLIC FORUM BUDGET DECISIONS.

While I think resurfacing our roads and having good functional libraries are important to our community, I think they are incomparable to the needs of our seniors. The older folks in our community deserve the very best that this city can offer. They have worked hard in this city. We're talking about human beings, people.

I am appalled that the governor and the city administration office could even consider cutting the senior meal program. It's also pretty disgusting to me that under the governor's proposal, the foster grandparent program would be cut entirely. Let's lock the governor and all those overspending city fat cats in a room by themselves alone with no food for a while. Let them be hungry and lonely.

Cutting the fat

Your editorial ``Vehicular excess'' (Dec. 17) tells it like it really is: Perks perk 1

2. To carry oneself in a lively and jaunty manner.
galore at City Hall. In this time of an economic crisis, isn't it about time these well-paid politicians and bureaucrats drive their own cars, pay for their gas and repairs and use public transportation like the rest of us, the taxpayers?

If we are to tighten our belts, let's tighten them first where the belly hangs over the belt: at City Hall. Take away all these free cars, the outrageous pensions and cut their huge salaries - now. Students will have to pay more for higher education higher education

Study beyond the level of secondary education. Institutions of higher education include not only colleges and universities but also professional schools in such fields as law, theology, medicine, business, music, and art.
. How can we afford to give these perks to a few? Aren't these people supposed to be leaders? So, lead. Now.

Airport noise levels

Has anyone noticed that, as the secession movement gathered steam, noise from Van Nuys Airport Van Nuys Airport (IATA: VNY, ICAO: KVNY, FAA LID: VNY) is a public airport located in Van Nuys, California in the San Fernando Valley, within the Los Angeles city limits.  lessened, to the point where Encino, for instance, was rarely pestered. But immediately after the election, with the failure (for now) of secession, the noise revved right up again?

Impact on Granada Hills

project, located near the intersection of Balboa Boulevard and the 5 Freeway. The easiest way to obtain water is to simply annex the project to Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. . If approved, Granada Hills would bear the full impact of a tremendous increase in Balboa traffic, including the cut-through traffic in our neighborhoods.

The project would also strain the entire city's water supply. Voters would like to know what the mayor and City Council, especially Councilman Hal Bernson Hal Bernson served as Los Angeles City Councilman for the 12th district. He was chair of the Transportation Committee. Prior to being on the City Council, he served in the Navy.

Golf surcharge

The recent letter to the editor concerning the future of the Studio City Golf and Tennis complex contained some erroneous assumptions. A motion introduced by Councilwoman Wendy Greuel Wendy Greuel is President Pro Tempore of the Los Angeles City Council representing the 2nd District. Greuel was elected in 2002 to fill the remainder of the term of Councilman Joel Wachs. She was elected in her own right in 2003 and reelected in 2007.  called upon city offices to identify potential funding sources for the purchase of this property. That same motion clearly underscored the acute needs within our existing citywide golf system for capital improvements and infrastructure renovations.

Creative financial solutions to both issues are being investigated which may include the issuance of revenue bonds, utilization of the revenues derived from the future Studio City operation, as well as the use of golf surcharge funds. An appraisal of the Studio City property is being conducted, the anticipated revenue stream from that operation is being evaluated and comprehensive cost estimates for capital improvements to the city's existing golf system are being reviewed. It is premature to assume that any resultant financial burden will be borne solely by the golfing public or that funds earmarked for other golf needs are in jeopardy.

Stars protesting

In a Dec. 16 Your Opinions letter, Judy Ross found the letter to President Bush, protesting a war with Iraq, signed by a hundred Hollywood stars, amusing. Why, because they portray life in American and around the world as it really is or was in the historical past? That's what artists do, that's what art does: It imitates life in the street, in the workplace, at play and even in the bedroom. We individually choose to see it or not to see it.

It's nothing new and Hollywood did not invent it. If Judy doesn't like what these stars portray, she can chose not to see it. What the stars are protesting is a war that President Bush is pushing that will kill thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians and American service personnel who have no choice. The silver screen portrays many evils and if President Bush proceeds with an evil war, it will no doubt get a replay on film also.

Monkeyshines

Someday we may have to give up the many pleasures of Los Angeles County. After all, we do have Gov. Gray Davis, the man who snafued the energy crisis, putting the state in the worst financial disaster since the Great Depression. Then there is the mayor of Los Angeles, James Hahn For the Iowa politician, see .

Among them are: 1) Adults accept responsibility; children simply want someone to blame; 2) Adults seek out all sides of an issue; children refuse to consider anything which upsets their preconceptions. There are others, but these two are good for openers.
