PUBLIC FORUM ARNOLD W.

It should be obvious to everyone with even an ounce of intelligence that Arnold Schwarzenegger Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger (German pronunciation (IPA): [ˈaɐ̯nɔlt ˈaloɪ̯s ˈʃvaɐ̯ʦənˌʔɛɡɐ]  will not debate his opponents because of these characteristics that he shares with George W. Bush:

1. Politics is his avocation

2. English is his second language.

The Bomb and World War II

I was intrigued by Max Ross's claim that World War II ``was over in early August 1944 when General Yamashita surrendered what was left of his rag-tag troops'' (Public Forum, Aug. 28).

The Japanese lost about 200,000 soldiers and civilians in the Battle of Okinawa The Battle of Okinawa, fought on the Japanese island of Okinawa, was the largest amphibious assault during the Pacific campaigns of World War II.[1] It lasted from late March through June 1945.  and 22,000 soldiers in the Battle of Iwo Jima The Battle of Iwo Jima was fought between the United States and Japan in February and March 1945, during the Pacific Campaign of World War II. The U.S. invasion, known as Operation Detachment, was aimed at capturing the airfields on Iwo Jima.  in 1945.

America lost 12,000 men at Okinawa and 7,000 at Iwo Jima Iwo Jima (ē`wō jē`mə, ē`wô), Jap. Io-jima, volcanic island, c.8 sq mi (21 sq km), W Pacific, largest and most important of the Volcano Islands. Mt. . In fact, roughly one-third of all Marines killed in World War II were killed at Iwo Jima.

If the atomic bombs did not ``end the war sooner or save American lives,'' one wonders why the Japanese suddenly surrendered after the second bomb in August 1945, but did not in August 1944.

Hateful Dowdies

Maureen Dowd Maureen Dowd (born January 14, 1952) is a Washington D.C.-based columnist for The New York Times.[1][2] She has worked for the Times since 1983, when she joined as a metropolitan reporter.  makes no secret of her hatred of President Bush, and by extension, anyone who takes risks to protect the U.S. (``Bush team more of a nightmare,'' Their Opinions, Sept. 4). Saddam and Osama surely cheer when they read her columns, as she sneers at the ``Bushies,'' ``Rummy rummy, card game played by two to six players with a standard deck. The cards usually rank from king down through ace. Seven cards are dealt to each player in the three- or four-hand game, one card is turned up on the table, and the remaining cards are left face down ,'' the ``neocons,'' etc.

Thoughtful people know blind hatred when they see it, so in that sense, she serves a useful purpose: She reminds us that not everyone who hates us lives in the Middle East. Perhaps we can call Dowd's followers ``Dowdies.''

Smut publicity

Regarding the Daily News' picture of Madonna, Britney Spears, et al. (Aug. 29):

That kind of smut is bad enough on TV, where I can turn it off. But the picture in my daily, subscribed newspaper is still thrown in my face. The Dixie Chicks almost lost their careers because they had the ``nerve'' to criticize the president, which is their right. These three can insult all our sensibilities over the airwaves and get extra publicity in daily newspapers with probably no repercussions repercussions nplrépercussions fpl

Re ``Abortion doctor's killer dies'' (Sept. 4):

So Paul Hill's supporters think killing a well-educated man and his unsuspecting escort is OK, but aborting an undeveloped, unwanted and unnamed fetus is murder. I hope these misguided anti-abortionists and zealots Zealots (zĕl`əts), Jewish faction traced back to the revolt of the Maccabees (2d cent. B.C.). Move to France

Re ```Pirates' star Depp says America is `dumb''' (News Lite, Sept. 4):

I wish everyone with Johnny Depp's attitude would move to France. It deserves them. Depp makes all his millions here, then splits after disagreeing with some of his country's policies. Good riddance.

Rewarding lawlessness

Re: ``Assembly OKs plan for immigrant drivers'' (Sept. 3):

The powers that be in the California Assembly decided that illegal immigrants can obtain a legal driver's license Noun 1. driver's license - a license authorizing the bearer to drive a motor vehicle
driver's licence, driving licence, driving license

license, permit, licence - a legal document giving official permission to do something

, legislation Gov. Gray Davis promised to sign in a heartbeat immediately.

See also: heartbeat
. So now we reward illegal behavior in a way that extends an invitation to our terrorist enemies and is a prelude to voter fraud! Perhaps we could also extend pilot's licenses after we check their new legal identification.

For those who oppose this recall, remember it is the people speaking out and they demand to be heard.

Now what do I do?

Let's say I'm an illegal immigrant, so it won't be known I'm here. I typically don't have a bank account, so it won't be known I'm here. I prefer good ol' American cash for work done, so it won't be known I'm here. I'm not typically asked for documentation at various government agencies, so it won't be known I'm here. I can obtain a fake driver's license on big-city street corners, so it won't be known I'm here.

Now the state is asking me to get to get a California driver's license, so it will be known I'm here. Hmmm, what should I do?

Immigration immigration, entrance of a person (an alien) into a new country for the purpose of establishing permanent residence. Motives for immigration, like those for migration generally, are often economic, although religious or political factors may be very important.  or slavery?

It was nice to see Jerry Denbo's letter (Public Forum, Sept. 3), because it confirms what some of us have been seeing for a while: Many people in California want to be slave owners This list includes notable individuals for which there is a consensus of evidence of slave ownership. A
  • Abraham
  • Anedjib (Egyptian Pharaoh)
B
  • Simon Bolivar, Latin American independence leader
C
  • Augustus Caesar
. They want to have illegal immigrants do the jobs they don't want to do at pay they don't want to work for.

The difference is in the old days the slave got nothing. Today the slaves get a few dollars and the slave owners hide their guilt under the liberal notion that they are giving the illegal immigrants a better life. No, the rest of us hard workers make the slaves' lives better as we subsidize their food, housing and medical care, all so the likes of Denbo can get their produce and other goods at slave-labor prices.

Reversing Bush

Since President George W. Bush declared the end of the war in Iraq, there have been even more casualties than before. So it may be time for the news media to have a breaking story by running the plane landing backward to show Bush strutting off the aircraft carrier's deck and flying into the sunset. Also, with current high-tech capability, they might turn him around 180 degrees to hide the frontal macho jockstrap view inflicted on us.

Self-robbery?

Re: ``Unions already rule local politics'' (Viewpoint, Aug. 30):

Chris Weinkopf conveniently overlooks the fact that the public employees he labels as ``big labor'' are also taxpayers. So, these taxpayers are ripping off themselves? I don't think so.

It's pretty simple

It doesn't take a rocket scientist Rocket Scientist

In the world of finance, these are people with science and math degrees who work in the finance field building highly advanced quantitative finance models. These models help banking, insurance and investment firms to price financial instruments.
to figure out the basic solution to California's budget woes. Provide a climate where business can thrive and create new jobs and the state has the revenue it needs. It also doesn't take a genius to know that spending more than is taken in, raising taxes, and placing further burdensome regulation on the business community will not produce the desired revenue-generating effect.

Why then, are Gray Davis and Cruz Bustamante so determined to take California down the same path that has created our epic deficit?

Why is Arnold Schwarzenegger the only electable e·lect·a·ble

No yolking matter

Re ``Egging each other on'' (Sept. 4):

Egging Arnold is not the answer, not voting for him is. Is this what kids are sent to college for? What's next, shooting people? Is this what our country has come to? Is this what we call democracy?

Oh yes, it's called freedom of expression. Well, in my opinion, it stinks.
