PUBLIC FORUM : LAKERS LOST HER SUPPORT.

I want to thank Dennis McCarthy for his Feb. 23 column, ``Rodman betrays values of our past heroes.'' I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

"Don't know the trade." A Street expression used whenever one party lacks knowledge of a trade or receives conflicting instructions from the other party.
if he would consider me ``from the old school'' as I am 35 years old, but I agree. It's a shame the way so many pro athletes behave today. I just can't thank Dennis enough for his straightforward, candid remarks. And thank you too, Roxie Campanella. As always, a class act. The Lakers won't be seeing any more of my money.

Good old days gone

Bravo, Dennis McCarthy! The sentiments expressed by Roxie Campanella and in the editorial captured the essence of the thoughts of the majority of sports fans here in L.A. The proud tradition and team spirit exemplified by Lakers teams throughout the last 25 years are about to be turned upside down.

This pathetic, tortured soul is only interested in the Lakers because of the proximity they offer to Hollywood, where his plaintive plain·tive

What about West?

I was going to send an e-mail to Jerry Buss this morning and then I read the Daily News editorial and Dennis McCarthy's article on Dennis Rodman, which says it all.

Two other things need to be said, which are: I hope Buss reads the above, and you would probably be safe to bet the farm that Jerry West will be ``leaving soon.''

Rodman is not the news

What a sad, sad day for L.A. The freak show that has come to be known as Dennis Rodman has signed with the Lakers. For the sports fans that do not follow or care about basketball, our newscasts and sports that we do care about have just come to a glitzy glitz   Informal

Not for him, mind you, but for the state of the media that created this manufactured monster. For the lack of balance in reporting all sports, and when he's the lead story, for the lack of what's really important in our town.

Dennis Rodman is not important to me. Hearing about the events and other sports of the day is.

You like it, you live it

In regards to Public Forum on death labels on fur products (Daily News, Feb. 20), I would like to ask Joseph F. Panicello if he had a choice would he prefer to stay where he's at and put up with gangs, road rage, smog, etc., and have a prolonged life, or reside in a special kind of place as he described for animals where he would be protected, have medical care, be fed well and have an overall comfortable life in exchange to be put to death at a later date for his body parts?

Beaten then blamed

As a member of the staff at Burton Street Elementary School, I would like to express my feelings about the brutal attack on Principal Norman G. Bernstein on Feb. 1.

I feel so sad to find out that my own people, who came to this beautiful country looking for Looking for

Why do we have to destroy the integrity of a person like Norman G. Bernstein? Why do parents make comments like, ``If this was an Anglo-Saxon community, would they treat us different?''

Hello, what do they mean by ``treat us different'' if the office staff of Burton Street Elementary School is all Hispanic?

Throw the rascals out

How can they do that? Once again, the Los Angeles Unified Board of Education has disregarded the wishes of parents and the strong recommendation of the superintendent who they hired by preliminarily agreeing to a salary increase without holding teachers responsible for doing their jobs.

Good teachers should be rewarded and are not afraid to be held accountable, so who is UTLA UTLA United Teachers of Los Angeles (California)  and the Board of Education protecting? The blue ribbon panel is right on in ``slamming the school board.''

We finally have a superintendent willing to deal with the tough issues, including teacher accountability, and the school board, as usual, is impeding his progress. My message to the school board is, stop selling out our children for your own selfish political motives. My question for the Daily News is, how do you go about impeaching an entire school board?

Stan and Ollie tenure

Carrie Rickey erroneously stated (Daily News, Feb. 22) that Siskel and Ebert were together longer than Laurel and Hardy Laurel and Hardy, American film comedy team. The duo consisted of Stan Laurel, 1890–1965, b. Ulverson, England, whose real name was Arthur Stanley Jefferson; and Oliver Hardy, 1892–1957, b. Atlanta, Ga. , 24 years as opposed to 18 years. Laurel and Hardy appeared in the 1917 comedy short ``The Lucky Dog,'' but they were officially a ``team'' beginning with ``Putting Pants On Philip'' in 1927. This soap won't wash

Exactly what aspect of the Clinton vs. Republicans soap opera does Thomas Sowell (``Senate trial was a farce on all sides,'' Feb. 19) not understand?

If it weren't for the fact that ever since his first term President Clinton had become the focus of a fanatical Republican attempt to undermine his presidency and consequently reduce his role to that of puppet of the Congress, I would support Sowell's critique of the Democratic Party.

If it weren't for the fact that illicit sexual affairs have been more the rule than the exception throughout the entire presidential and congressional history of the United States “American history” redirects here. For the history of the continents, see History of the Americas.
The United States of America is located in the middle of the North American continent, with Canada to the north and the United Mexican States to the south.
, I would understand Sowell's disdain for President Clinton.

If it weren't for the fact that lying about an affair and lying about a break-in or an arms deal is like comparing apples and oranges, I would sympathize with Sowell about the state of our judicial system.

Right initials, wrong act

``Local View'' column by Joseph J. Jacobs, Feb. 21, refers to the Community Redevelopment Act. After reading the letter, it is obvious that Jacobs is referring to the ``Community Reinvestment Act Community Reinvestment Act (CRA)

Enacted by Congress in 1977, the CRA encourages banks to help meet the credit needs of their communities for housing and other purposes, particularly in neighborhoods with low or moderate incomes, while maintaining safe and sound operations.

There is the Community Redevelopment Agency, created under state law, whose existence and practices are highly contentious. Both share the initials CRA See Community Reinvestment Act. .

If we ban liquor sales we will save thousands of lives. If we ban abortion we will save many lives. If we ban cars, we will save many, many lives.

So Zev Yaroslavsky's statement, ``If it saves one life, it will be worth it,'' ranks as one of the most idiotic remarks ever made and also one of the most dangerous.

If ever there was a situation that cried out for armed citizen intervention, this is it. One thug with a gun can ignore almost any number of unarmed citizens, but if every citizen is carrying a Saturday night special or a junk gun or whatever awful identification the anti-gun crowd is currently touting, the thug would be dead meat the very next time he attempted an armed assault.

Ain't gonna happen

The letter in Public Forum from Manjit Singh on Feb. 22 asks why wasn't President Clinton's impeachment impeachment, formal accusation issued by a legislature against a public official charged with crime or other serious misconduct. In a looser sense the term is sometimes applied also to the trial by the legislature that may follow.  focused on Clinton possibly taking foreign campaign contributions from China instead of perjury perjury (pûr`jərē), in criminal law, the act of willfully and knowingly stating a falsehood under oath or under affirmation in judicial or administrative proceedings.  and obstruction of justice A criminal offense that involves interference, through words or actions, with the proper operations of a court or officers of the court.
