PUBLIC FORUM : KIDS CAN CLEAN.

Re ``Know what kids really hate? School bathrooms'' (Oct. 11):

At my school (Canyonview Academy) we have our own jobs to take care of the school, such as spot cleaning, which is when you go into the bathroom and clean any possible spots. Or we have sweeping, taking garbage down Verb 1. garbage down - eat a large amount of food quickly; "The children gobbled down most of the birthday cake"
gobble up, shovel in, bolt down

eat - take in solid food; "She was eating a banana"; "What did you eat for dinner last night?"
to the dumpster, and picking up trash around the school.

The whole point of this idea is for your school to be clean and the kids will care more about ruining school property. Even the lower-grade kids, like in first, second and third grades, should participate in this.

Nuclear test ban treaty

The treaty vote that Clinton and Congress are arguing about clearly points out that this lame duck An elected official, who is to be followed by another, during the period of time between the election and the date that the successor will fill the post.

The term lame duck generally describes one who holds power when that power is certain to end in the near future.
president will never be trusted again. It seems that he has lied so many times to Congress in private meetings that they have had enough. Congress is now demanding that Clinton put everything in writing for the public to see before they work with him.

This is the price a liar must pay again and again. That is Clinton's legacy.

Can't trust him

Gee! I don't think I've seen ``Slick Willie's'' nose that red since he wagged his finger at us saying ``I did not have a sexual relationship with that woman - Ms. Lewinsky!'' He does have one claim to fame. A word, sentence, paragraph or thought of unvarnished truth has never escaped his lips! Be it civilian or military, William Jefferson William Jefferson can refer to more than one person.

No sale, Willie

In regards to the Senate's refusal of Clinton's proposal for ``Mr. Nice Guy status in a big, happy, bad-guys-don't-exist world,'' somebody ought to tell Mr. President Mr. President can refer to:

  • Mr. President (radio series), a radio series featuring episodes from the lives of the Presidents of the United States
  • Mr. President (TV series), a 1987 TV series starring George C. Scott

In your Oct. 14 Public Forum, a writer raised the question as to who outranks whom - the Sheriff or Chief of Police.

I checked the California Constitution The California Constitution is the document that establishes and describes the duties, powers, structure and function of the government of the U.S. state of California. The original constitution, adopted in November 1849 in the U.S.  via the Internet and found that the elected state Attorney General is the top law enforcement officer in the state. He, in turn, supervises the elected Sheriff in each county. The Sheriff, as the only elected law enforcement officer in each county, is the top law enforcement officer in that county.

As far as rank insignia is concerned, it's easier to discern who's in charge at the scene of a major incident when all the officers are wearing the same uniform and, consequently, it's difficult to tell from a distance who's who Who’s Who

Re ``Pat's mislabeled'' (Public Forum, Oct. 7):

I am really disturbed at the ongoing anti-Christian attacks on Pat Buchanan This article may be too long.
Please discuss this issue on the talk page and help summarize or split the content into subarticles of an article series.
. Clearly, the writer has not read Buchanan's book; neither, it seems, have any of Buchanan's other critics. No one has yet shown any proof of Buchanan's support of anti-Semitism. They can't handle the fact that Buchanan believes their support should be of America first America First may refer to:
  • America First Committee, a special interest group that opposed entry of the United States of America into World War II
  • America First Credit Union, a credit union in Utah
, not Israel. I have no problem with this position. America should be first in our loyalty, no matter where our ancestors Our Ancestors (Italian: I Nostri Antenati) is the name of Italo Calvino's "heraldic trilogy" that comprises The Cloven Viscount (1952), The Baron in the Trees (1957), and The Nonexistent Knight (1959).  came from.  be subordinate to Israel, Germany, Mexico, Ireland, Russia, etc.? Buchanan represents a viewpoint that needs to be brought before the public. Clearly, when 50 percent of the voters don't vote, the Democrats (who fought to preserve slavery in the Civil War) and the Republicans (who have lost all common sense) haven't a clue as to what Americans really want. Read the book; it's called, ``A Republic, not an Empire.'' Then you can criticize with a degree of intellectual honesty, instead of a snide display of wit.

What nerve

This jerk Linda Tripp Linda Tripp (born Linda Rose Carotenuto on November 24, 1949 in Jersey City, New Jersey) was a central figure in the Lewinsky scandal of 1998 and 1999 that led to the impeachment and subsequent acquittal of U.S. President Bill Clinton.  has the nerve to say she is suing the White House. Look what that jerk did to this country. I think she should have been put in jail for a long time.

Forcing compassion

Re ``Message bears repeating'' (Opinions, Oct. 14):

Don Kaul's panegyric panegyric

Eulogistic oration or laudatory discourse. The panegyric originally was a speech delivered at an ancient Greek general assembly (panegyris), such as the Olympic and Panathenaic festivals.
to Warren Beatty reminded me of the dirty secret at the heart of liberals and of liberalism.

``Scaring people with money,'' says Kaul, is ``half the fun of being a liberal.'' Especially for rich liberals like Beatty, whose hypocrisy is blindingly evident each time they take the Rolls for a spin. Liberals are deeply insecure about their own morality, and thus must continually ``prove'' their moral superiority to everyone . . . especially themselves.

Such displays of conspicuous compassion are quite expensive, and our doom was sealed when leftists realized that they could force others to pay the bills for their ``compassion.'' They have never learned - and can never learn - that forced compassion is not compassion.

Were Beatty and Kaul to bankrupt themselves, donating all they have to the poor, then would they possess the moral stature to lecture the rest of us that insufficient funds are being spent on the needy.
