PUBLIC FORUM : ISRAEL RISKS ITS FUTURE BY SURRENDERING LAND.

The majority of the lands in question were captured from Arab states in wars the Arabs initiated for the purpose of pushing the Jews into the sea. The Arab states have never renounced that goal.

Make no mistake: Return of captured lands by the Israelis will be perceived by the Arab world “Arab States” redirects here. For the political alliance, see Arab League.
The Arab World (Arabic: العالم العربي; Transliteration: al-`alam al-`arabi) stretches from the Atlantic Ocean in the
as a sign of weakness and will open the flood gates for further demands. Israel is a small sliver of land, not quite the size of the state of Vermont, with a population of 5 million Jews and about 1 million non-Jews. Those neighboring states that are overtly or covertly hostile to Israel would comprise, in area, the remainder of the continental United States United States territory, including the adjacent territorial waters, located within North America between Canada and Mexico. Also called CONUS.  with a population of 210 million. Under those circumstances, I'm sure even staid Vermonters would develop a hard-nosed attitude.

If Israel bargains away ``land for peace'' and its military for appeasement appeasement

Calabasas election

Congratulations are in order to the residents of the city of Calabasas for their wise choices at the polls March 4. They elected James Bozajian, Bob Sibilia and incumbent Lesley Devine, the latter two being opponents of the proposed Kilroy Calabasas Park Centre, an intrusive strip mall-anchored development. In the process of being elected, they ousted pro-development Councilman Marvin Lopata and dashed the council hopes of Planning Commissioner Michael Tingus. Had those two been members of the new City Council, it is likely that the proposed development would go forward as is; now though, things may go the way of the homeowners and environmentally conscious individuals. It is up to the new City Council to make sure the quality of life and the ``outdoorsy out·door·sy

School employees praised

I would like to add my voice to those praising our city's employees (police, fire, emergency, etc.) for their heroic work in North Hollywood's hours of need Feb. 28.

Habitat for Humanity Habitat for Humanity, nonprofit ecumenical Christian organization that enables low-income people to own affordable, livable housing. Headquartered in Americus, Ga., it was founded in 1976 by businessman Millard Fuller and his wife.

``Habitat for Humanity reluctant to accept foreclosure,'' Daily News, Feb. 9, perhaps misunderstood the mission of Habitat for Humanity. Its focus was on mortgage repayment rates. Habitat, although a lender, is not a bank and does not approach its homeowners as such.

We partner with families, who would not likely otherwise have the chance to become homeowners, to build their own homes. If their circumstances change and they are no longer able to meet their mortgage payment, we will work with them to create a more affordable payment schedule as long as they remain committed to improving their situation.

Our mission of ending substandard housing around the world would not be well served by foreclosing on mortgages of hard-working, deserving families who may have fallen on hard times.

One of the key reasons our families are able to become successful homeowners is the Family PaNrtnership Committee. The FPC fpc - A translator from Backus's FP to C.

Clean-air debate

I was disappointed to see that Bob Herbert Bob Herbert (born March 7, 1945 in Brooklyn, NY), is an op-ed columnist for The New York Times. His column is syndicated to other newspapers around the country. He is distinguished by his frequent columns on poverty and criticism of the war in Iraq.  succumbed to the rhetoric that is distorting the debate over the Environmental Protection Agency's proposed changes to clean-air standards and depriving the public of an honest discussion about how our public health dollars should be invested (``America's industrial leaders having a bad air day,'' Opinions, Feb. 12.

This debate is not, as Herbert lightly describes it, a sporting event which pits protesters wearing gas masks against those carrying barbecue grills. Instead, it is a public policy debate of enormous importance, which revolves around the question of whether the EPA's proposed changes are justified when many scientists are questioning whether such changes will achieve significant public health benefits.

Portraying the debate as just another fight between environmentalists on the one hand and industry on the other will not help to answer this question. And instead of having a serious and factual debate over whether it makes sense to adopt new regulations that will cost local governments, businesses and consumers billions of dollars each year, when there is no evidence that those regulations will do more for public health than the current standards, we will continue to be trapped by simplistic sim·plism

Cougars are killers

Re the killing of a mounNtain lion in Valencia last month:

Mountain lions or cougars are highly efficient predators. They are designed to kill other animals and eat them. A fully grown mountain lion can kill a fully grown horse with a single bite of its 2-1/2-inch fangs. And its claws can disembowel dis·em·bow·el
tr.v. dis·em·bow·eled or dis·em·bow·elled, dis·em·bow·el·ing or dis·em·bow·el·ling, dis·em·bow·els

a human faster than you can blink.

A cougar doesn't understand human laws, so terms such as innocent or guilty are irrelevant. While I agree that cougars are beautiful creatures, the fact that the animal was not acting aggressively doesn't lessen its threat to the children walking to school at the time. This animal obviously viewed suburbia as a food source, or it wouldn't have been there.

My reading of the Daily News did not lead me to conclude that Department of Fish and Game personnel knew that zoo officials were about to arrive. Even if they were aware, if the cat started to move, and I believe that is why it was shot, the Fish and Game personnel had no means to contain it, short of deadly force An amount of force that is likely to cause either serious bodily injury or death to another person.

Police officers may use deadly force in specific circumstances when they are trying to enforce the law.
.

And finally: Fish and Game personnel are there to manage wildlife as a whole; they are not there to protect individual animals. All of nature is a numbers game. Many more of any species are born than survive. Only the strongest, fastest and the smartest survive. This cougar did a stupid thing. It came into close contact with a superior predator - man.

Nature is cruel and heartless and final. It doesn't operate by man's laws or emotions.

Sexual harassment sexual harassment, in law, verbal or physical behavior of a sexual nature, aimed at a particular person or group of people, especially in the workplace or in academic or other institutional settings, that is actionable, as in tort or under equal-opportunity statutes.

Re the obnoxious column by Stephanie Salter, ``Sexual harassment victims feel anguish of speaking up'' (Viewpoint, March 3):

I cannot believe that anybody could take this article seriously. The picture that arises from the portrayal of these women who file sexual harassment claims is that of pathetic weaklings trying to make a fast buck.

TNhe fact of the matter is that most harassment claims are the result of shunned women who willingly enter relationships with men and then, when things don't go their way, file a complaint. This in turn sets in motion a legal procedure in which men have absolutely no rights and results in their reputations being tainted and careers endangered for the most trivial of actions.

If women want to be taken seriously, they should stop acting like whiny little wimps and try dealing with their own emotional problems, rather than running to an attorney whenever some petty event happens that ruffles For the plural of ruffle, see .

I read with interest ``Sexual harassment victims feel anguish of speaking up.''

I felt compelled to add my two cents My two cents may refer to either of these:
  • My two cents is an American idiom.
  • My Two Cents is an element of the American cartoon TV show The Simpsons.
, because I am a battle-scarred veteran of sexual harassment, and I want to tell you how I handled it, and maybe the ladies could get some ideas. When I was 17 years old, I got a job at a finance company as a filing clerk. The sleaze-bag boss immediately started with innuendos, then went to the heavy stuff, praising parts of my anatomy.

Being a 17-year-old with little experience, I told him to shut his mouth or I'd sic my brother on him, or better still I'd kick him where he makes babies. From that time on, he stayed away from me.

Situations are different. If you stand up to it right away - and not act like you are shocked and offended - you can use a bit of humor to offset the situation. I know I have, and it worked.
