PUBLIC FORUM : IRRELEVANT QUESTION.After reading about mayoral candidate Councilman Joel Wachs' cable interview, I have almost given up hope that common sense will take hold in society before the turn of the century. First, I ask myself, why would any fairly schooled reporter ask such an irrelevant personal question? Secondly, why would Wachs choose to answer such an impertinent IMPERTINENT, practice, pleading. What does not appertain, or belong to; id est, qui ad rem non pertinet. 2. Evidence of facts which do not belong to the matter in question, is impertinent and inadmissible. question? The only answer I came up with is simple lack of intelligence from both parties. I am not an admirer of homosexuality and consider it an aberration, but simple common sense tells me that it should not disqualify To deprive of eligibility or render unfit; to disable or incapacitate. To be disqualified is to be stripped of legal capacity. A wife would be disqualified as a juror in her husband's trial for murder due to the nature of their relationship. any human being from doing good work. Based on what I know, Joel Wachs Joel Wachs served for several terms as Los Angeles City Councilman for the 2nd district. He was first elected by defeating incumbent James B. Potter. While in office, Wachs chaired the Public Works Committee and vice-chair of the Environmental Quality & Waste Management has done a very good job as a councilman and there seems to be no reason he could not be a good mayor, up to this point anyway. I believe intelligence is the ability to foresee the future consequences of our present actions. Joel Wachs failed to visualize that from this point on, he will have to overcome another political obstacle from those who do not like homosexuals and he will also have to express politically-correct statements about equal opportunities and all at the expense of his private life. That changed when enough Americans' moral conscience - inspired by religious teaching - began to influence government action. The abortion holocaust, however, is justified by scientific evidence that human beings are no better than other life forms. And the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that public schools can't teach religious morality - only science. - Bill Starr Burbank Serious health risk No matter what Browning Ferris Industries says, expanding the Sunshine Canyon Landfill so close to Van Gogh Elementary School elementary school: see school. and to the city's water supply is not good for anyone's health. The cartoon implied that this organization is primitive and that they harm or degrade women. I take exception to this reasoning. I have been involved with this organization since 1993 and believe the principles they ascribe to are more relevant now than ever before. Especially in regards to the increase in violence in the schools. Imagine fathers across this nation committing to these seven simple basic concepts: honor Jesus Christ Jesus Christ: see Jesus. I do not think it coincidence that overall crime rate has dropped significantly across this nation as reported recently since the inception of Promise Keepers in 1991. - Dennis Tayman Simi Valley Right the first time On Nov. 11, the Daily News published a letter, ``Math Lesson,'' by Herb Wiener in which he admitted to eating crow because he wrongly accused Walter Heuman of ``bad math.'' The seller is asked to assume the buyer's costs. Then the purchase price is raised enough to cover these costs, which raises the amount of the loan needed to cover the purchase price. One real estate salesman told me that she automatically asks the seller to assume the buyer's costs, and then adds the amount to the purchase price. Every bid on my property contained this provision. With the concurrence CONCURRENCE, French law. Dict. de Jur. h.t. of my agent, I refused to accept these offers and held firm to my original price. As an accountant, I could figure who loses and who wins on such a bid. The buyer winds up paying costs which have increased since commissions and other costs are based on a percentage of the gross sale price. The seller's loss is the increase in commissions and other percentage-based costs. The real estate agents win though the increase in commissions, and the banks win through an increase in points. Future sellers set their sales price based on the prices received in their area. Thus the cycle continues. - Jean T. Dewey Quartz Hill Sun Valley neglect This is about an area that is being neglected by those who promised voters that they were going to look into their problems; that is, before the election. Now the election is over and our area is once again ignored. Trash in the streets, the council office closed, discarded used furniture and mattresses alongside the roadway, filth in the gutters and apathy creeping along the streets, into the hearts of the residents. Sun Valley no longer has productive large scale employers; the tax system on business saw to that. Lockheed moved out; so did Superscope, Sony and so many others. Not our fault, but the fault of the tax and political system. Now there is nothing for them to gain; read that as big votes. Our small population of about 69,000 doesn't count with politicians. We are left in our neighborhood to watch urban decay creep in. Many of our streets are not swept. The Pacific Pipeline squirts through our neighborhood.
