PUBLIC CAN LEARN USE OF COMPUTER FOR LEGAL RESEARCH LANCASTER LIBRARY TO HOST CLASSES ON MONTHLY BASIS.

LANCASTER - Legal research classes will be held monthly at the Lancaster Library, 601 W. Lancaster Blvd.

The classes will be conducted from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. May 10 and June 14.

The classes will be taught by Sarah Sabasteanski, electronic services reference librarian of the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Law Library.

The focus of each class is legal research on the computer and finding and updating case law.

Participants will learn how to find cases using free Web sites and the legal database Lexis Lexis®

An online legal information service that provides the full text of opinions and statutes in electronic format. Subscribers use their personal computers to search the Lexis database for relevant cases. They may download or print the legal information they retrieve.

The class is open to the public free of charge, but space is limited.

There is no previous legal research experience required, but participants must know how to use a computer mouse.

The Los Angeles County Law Library, coordinated by Sabasteanski, has developed a special pilot program at the Lancaster Library and the Lexis database is now available on the Lancaster Library's Government Services Computer.

The Lexis database provides only California law California Law consists of 29 codes, covering various subject areas, the State Constitution and Statutes. See also
