PTSC Introduces Industry's First Micro-platform for Home Gateways; OSGi-compatible plug-in can speed the development of home gateways, hand-helds, set-top applications.Business Editors and Technology Writers SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 27, 2000 PTSC PTSC Provisioning Technical Service Committee (Oasis) PTSC Pentagon Telecommunications Service Center PTSC Parent Teacher Student Conference (Patriot Scientific Corp.) (OTCBB OTCBB See OTC Bulletin Board (OTCBB). :PTSC) today introduced the industry's first OSGi-compatible home gateway server micro-platform, a small-outline board designed as a plug-in for developing home gateways, hand-held Internet devices, set-top boxes, and other consumer electronics devices. The Java portion of this market has been estimated to be over 10 million devices in 2002, and rapidly expanding. Called the Ignite(TM) Micro-Platform, the product includes a 32-bit microprocessor which is based on PTSC's proprietary ROSC ROSC Return of spontaneous circulation, see there (TM) architecture and executes Java as its native language. Actually a dual-processor, the core device incorporates both an instruction processing unit and an I/O processor Circuitry specialized for I/O operations. The micro-platform comes pre-loaded with WindRiver's VxWorks real-time operating system (operating system) Real-Time Operating System - (RTOS) Any operating system where interrupts are guaranteed to be handled within a certain specified maximum time, thereby making it suitable for control of hardware in embedded systems and other time-critical applications. and support package, Sun's PersonalJava(TM) suite and its tools, and PTSC's own vxPresso(TM) which integrates their operation. Licenses for the software are also included to further reduce time-to-market for the integrator. "The Ignite platform provides a fast and easy way for product designers and integrators to move into the home gateway space," said Richard Blum, PTSC's president. "They can use this platform immediately for evaluation and prototyping, and the intellectual property and toolset are available under license when they want to integrate the technology more deeply into their designs." PTSC is partnering with Sun Microsystems in approaching the home gateway market. Operation of the Ignite Micro-Platform is to be publicly demonstrated in Santa Clara today at the first of five stops in the Dot Com Home 2000 Tour, of which Sun is one of the sponsors. The Tour is providing technical briefings in the U.S. and Canada regarding the Open Services Gateway Initiative (OSGi) for home gateways, and the newly announced Internet Home Alliance. The OSGi server specification is based on Java. PTSC is a member of OSGi, and the Ignite Micro-Platform complies with all relevant portions of that specification. Samples are immediately available. About PTSC PTSC was founded as Patriot Scientific Corp. in 1987. The company has spent much of the intervening time in developing and perfecting the ROSC microprocessor architecture on which the Ignite series is based, and is now prepared to go into volume production.
