PTA Reflections.More than 500,000 students across the nation and in American American, river, 30 mi (48 km) long, rising in N central Calif. in the Sierra Nevada and flowing SW into the Sacramento River at Sacramento. The discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill (see Sutter, John Augustus) along the river in 1848 led to the California gold rush of schools around the world, participated in the National PTA's 1990-91 Reflections cultural arts program. Since its start in 1969, Reflections has provided students with an opportunity to express and share their creative abilities. Students in grades K-12 interpret each year's theme through visual arts visual arts npl → artes fpl plásticas visual arts npl → arts mpl plastiques visual arts npl → , music composition, literature and photography. The 1990-91 theme was "If I Had A Wish." Over 900 entries were judged at the national level. Two hundred thirty-nine entries were judged at the national level in the photography category. Four Outstanding Interpretation winners - one for each art category - are selected. These students, along with one of their parents, received a trip to the National PTA Convention. Students receiving first, second, third place and honorable mention, received prizes, and all students whose entries reached the national level were presented with a certificate. One $750 scholarship is awarded in each of the categories of literature, music, visual arts and photography. The scholarships are given to high school seniors to be used to further their education in literature, music, visual arts or photography. The Reflections program is administered by state PTAs.
