PRUDENTIAL JOINS NEIC NETWORK; CARRIER EXPECTS TO ELIMINATE MORE THAN
A MILLION PAPER HEALTHCARE CLAIMS IN 1992
SECAUCUS, N.J., Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Prudential, the nation's largest insurance carrier covering more than 20 million Americans and offering managed healthcare plans in 43 locations nationwide, has contracted with the National Electronic Information Corporation (NEIC) in an agreement that is expected to eliminate more than 1.2 million paper claims in 1992 and significantly higher volumes in subsequent years.
"This vote of confidence from Prudential confirms the fact that a significant number of healthcare providers, carriers and managed care entities are actively accepting and utilizing electronic transactions," said Kenneth J. O'Donnell, president and CEO of NEIC, the largest electronic healthcare claims clearinghouse in the country.
According to Rich Schattin, vice president of Prudential's Group Insurance Systems organization, "Electronic ties to providers, through our partnership with NEIC, will result in a prompter, more reliable exchange of information which impacts on Prudential's commitment to quality assurance, cost-effective utilization of medical services, and less costly claims processing."
NEIC, headquartered in Secaucus, was founded in 1981 to electronically receive, edit, and distribute electronic healthcare claims and other associated transactions. More than 2,200 hospitals, 58,700 physicians, and 4,100 dentists currently submit claims through NEIC to 57 payors including managed care entities.
