PROVIDENT NATIONAL BANK TO COLLECT FOR 'TOYS FOR TOTS' PROGRAM

PROVIDENT NATIONAL BANK TO COLLECT FOR 'TOYS FOR TOTS' PROGRAM
PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Provident National Bank will collect toys in its 81 area branches Nov. 16 to Dec. 18 for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program.
The program is being supported by both Provident National Bank and WCAU-TV.
Community residents are asked to bring in toys during regular branch hours, generally 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at select branches. Specially marked kiosks will be available in each branch for the toy collection. Donors are asked by the Marine Corps to donate new, unwrapped toys that will be distributed to local disadvantaged children for the holidays.
The Marine Corps Reserve, which has sponsored the Toys for Tots program since 1947, distributes the toys in the communities in which they were donated. Last year, approximately 8 million toys were collected nationwide, tens of thousands in the Delaware Valley alone.
Provident's theme for the event is "Give to Toys for Tots for Lots of Little Reasons." "We are particularly proud to lend out support to this program to make this year's holiday special for children in the Delaware Valley," said Frederick C. Frank, head of retail banking at Provident. "Given the economy, the need is great. We hope people will be just as generous -- or more so -- than in the past," he said.
The geographic distance covered by Provident's 81 branches, located throughout the Delaware Valley, offers Toys for Tots one of the largest networks for gathering toys it has ever had in this region, according to Capt. Jamie W. Goncharoff, the U.S. Marines officer serving as the Delaware Valley Toys for Tots coordinator.
Community support for the program is vital, Goncharoff said. "Without this program and the strong participation we get from local communities, thousands of children in this area wouldn't have a holiday at all," he said.
