PROSECUTORS CLAIM LETTER SPELLS OUT MOTIVE BEHIND ILL-FATED ATTEMPT ON GARZA.Byline: Jeannette DeSantis Daily News Staff Writer In a letter prosecutors say outlines why she wanted her husband dead, accused killer Nicole Garza urges her sister to commit ``1-1/2 minutes of terror'' so both women could lead better lives. The letter, part of a search warrant unsealed Friday, describes the benefits of killing Jose Garza, including allowing the sisters to start their own business and getting Nicole Garza's children away from a husband the wife accuses of teaching them to be ``gun mongers,'' ``inconsiderate'' and ``rude.'' ``The contents clearly show it was written by Nicole to her sister Lynette (Lafontaine-Trujillo) outlining her motives for why she wished to murder her husband,'' said Deputy District Attorney Dale Cutler, who is prosecuting the case. Nicole Garza, 32, a family law attorney, is accused of conspiring with her older sister in a murder-for-money plot to kill her husband, a 50-year-old attorney. Police said the plan may have been to collect on at least two life insurance policies taken out on Jose Garza, together worth more than $100,000. The scheme went awry a·wry adv. 1. The letter promises to get Lafontaine-Trujillo out of debt, off drugs and on the medication Prozac. Other reasons to kill Jose Garza listed in the letter were to free Garza from the ``daily sexual abuse'' she suffered, to save her children from ``mental and physical abuse,'' and to allow her to renew her relationships with family members, as well as male friends. Jose Garza, contacted at the family home in Sylmar, declined to comment on the letter. Cutler said he is unable to explain the sexual abuse entry, but said nothing in their investigation points to Garza being a victim of domestic violence. Nicole Garza also states that the sisters trust each other implicitly, are smart and would never say anything to anyone about the act. It also states that Nicole Garza was prepared to take the ``brunt brunt n. 1. The main impact or force, as of an attack. 2. Girolamo has said that Jose Garza is very supportive of his young wife, who is the mother to their three children, ranging in age from 4 years to 18 months, and often visits her in jail. Cutler said Jose Garza has seen the letter, which police entered as evidence against his wife. |
