Once they'd completed their 18 holes, the local players took cover at the golf club's restaurant to chat about the skills they learned and the laughs they shared with their pro partners - who will compete in the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Championship, beginning today.

The Pro-Am was held Wednesday and Thursday, with spots primarily going to corporate sponsors. Organizers said the sponsors use the spots as rewards for company employees, or to woo and show off for clients.

``It's an opportunity to get out and spend four or five hours with women touring pros,'' said Julie Filkoff, a tournament spokeswoman. ``It's entertaining.''

The professional golfers heading into the three-day Los Angeles Championship each participated in the Pro-Am, and were assigned to a foursome at random. Thirty-three teams played Wednesday, and an additional 36 teams took to the course Thursday.
