PROPERTY TAX ASSISTANCE NOW OFFERED LOW-INCOME SENIORS, DISABLED CAN GET HELP WITH PAPERWORK.

PALMDALE -- Low-income elderly and disabled homeowners and renters can get help applying for state aid to pay property taxes.

The state pays up to $472.60 a year for homeowners and $347.50 for renters who are age 62 or older, blind or disabled, and who made less than $40,811 last year.

Volunteers trained by the Franchise Tax Board of California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W).  will assist qualified applicants in completing the required paperwork.

People must bring proof of income, such as Social Security benefit statement, Supplemental Security Income Supplemental Security Income

A Social Security program established to help the blind, disabled, and poor.
, W-2s forms, 1099 forms, interest statements, and 2005 income tax returns.

Homeowners must have resided in the home on Dec. 31 and also bring in their 2005-2006 property tax statement.

People must also bring in proof of age and citizenship or residency A duration of stay required by state and local laws that entitles a person to the legal protection and benefits provided by applicable statutes.

 status.
