Atlanta-based PROMINA Health System, Georgia's largest not-for-profit healthcare system, and Eclipsys Corporation(R) (Nasdaq:ECLP), The Outcomes Company(R), today announced that PROMINA has selected Eclipsys' industry-leading Sunrise(TM) Clinical Manager solution featuring Knowledge-Based Orders(TM) as the foundation for the organization's comprehensive, enterprise-wide patient-safety initiative. Clinical Manager also will play a central role in PROMINA's effort to fully integrate clinical information from disparate systems throughout the organization.

PROMINA Health System, which comprises more than 2,000 metropolitan Atlanta-area physicians and seven acute-care hospitals -- Piedmont Hospital, DeKalb Medical Center, Gwinnett Medical Center, Southern Regional Medical Center, Decatur Hospital, Fayette Community Hospital and Joan Glancy Memorial Hospital -- will implement Sunrise Clinical Manager's knowledge-driven physician order-entry, results reporting, clinical documentation and clinical data repository features throughout its affiliated hospitals, providing its physicians with access to comprehensive electronic patient data and medical records both in those facilities and across its far-ranging health network.

PROMINA is working closely with the Georgia Healthcare Leadership Council, a consortium of local employers and insurers organized to collect and disseminate information on patient-safety initiatives to employees and consumers. The council comprises prominent Atlanta-based companies and Leapfrog Group members such as Delta Airlines, UPS, Coca-Cola and Georgia Pacific, as well as Verizon Communications and IBM.

The National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine (IOM), whose initial 1999 report and March 2001 follow-up study greatly increased public awareness of the need to dramatically reduce medical errors, has recommended expanded use of knowledge-driven information solutions such as Clinical Manager to achieve the goal of reducing avoidable medical events by at least half within five years.
