PRODUCTION SET TO BEGIN ON 'THIS BOY'S LIFE,' STARRING ROBERT DE NIRO AND ELLEN BARKIN, FOR WARNER BROS. RELEASE
Art Linson Will Produce, Michael Caton-Jones Will Direct
BURBANK, Calif., Nov. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert De Niro and Ellen Barkin will star in "This Boy's Life," a motion picture to be produced by Art Linson and directed by Michael Caton-Jones. Production is set to begin on Feb. 24, 1992. The announcement was made today by Bruce Berman, president of Warner Bros. Worldwide Motion Picture Production.
The film is an adaptation of Tobias Wolff's critically acclaimed autobiographical novel. Set in the 1950s, it tells the story of a young man who travels across the country with his recently divorced mother and becomes profoundly affected by his colorful, but strict, stepfather.
Two-time Academy Award-winner De Niro, one of the most-honored performers in motion pictures, is currently starring in Martin Scorsese's remake of "Cape Fear." His substantial body of work includes "Mean Streets," "Taxi Driver," "New York, New York," "Raging Bull" and "The King of Comedy," all also for Scorsese; "Bang the Drum Slowly," "The Godfather, Part II," "The Deer Hunter," "The Untouchables," "The Mission," "Angel Heart," "The Last Tycoon," "1900," "True Confessions," "Once Upon a Time in America," "Brazil," "Jacknife," "Midnight Run," "Stanley & Iris," "Awakenings," "Guilty by Suspicion" and "Backdraft."
Barkin, who starred earlier this year for Warner Bros. in Blake Edwards' "Switch," has made a significant impression on audiences since her motion picture debut in "Diner." Her other credits include "Tender Mercies," "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai," "Desert Bloom," "Harry and Son," "Enormous Changes at the Last Minute," "Down By Law," "Siesta," "Sea of Love," "Johnny Handsome," "The Big Easy" and the upcoming "Man Trouble."
Linson, whose Knickerbocker Films has a three-year exclusive production agreement with Warner, has produced "The Untouchables," "Melvin and Howard," "Fast Times At Ridgemont High," "Casualities of War," "Scrooged," "Dick Tracy" and the upcoming "Singles."
Director Caton-Jones directed the critically applauded British film "Scandal," followed by "Memphis Belle," produced by David Puttnam, and last summer's hit, "Doc Hollywood," both for Warner Bros.
"We are, of course, extremely pleased to be working again with two stars of Mr. De Niro's and Ms. Barkin's talent on this exciting project," stated Berman. "Art Linson and Michael Caton-Jones have each shown great diversity of ability on a wide-ranging group of motion pictures, and I have no doubt that Tobias Wolff's fascinating book will be translated into an equally moving film in their capable hands."
Warner Bros. will release "This Boy's Life" in the United States and Canada and The Regency/Odyssey Co. will release overseas.
