PRODUCERS OF 'NEW JACK CITY' AND 'HOUSE PARTY 2' ANNOUNCE START OF PRODUCTION ON 'JASON'S LYRIC'

Talent Search Underway to Find `Fresh New Face' to Play Female Lead
HOUSTON, July 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Gramercy Pictures and the Jackson/McHenry Co. announced today that the feature film "Jason's Lyric" will begin production in Houston on Sept. 15. Simultaneously, the producers announced that they are embarking on a national talent search for a beautiful African-American woman to play the lead in the film, with an opening casting call planned for Houston on Saturday, July 31.
"Jason's Lyric" is the story of a young African-American man whose volatile relationship with his brother prevents him from pursuing his own dreams -- until he falls in love with a woman who gives him a reason to dream again. The film will be produced by Doug McHenry and George Jackson and will be directed by McHenry. "Jason's Lyric" is a Gramercy Pictures release.
According to producers Jackson and McHenry, whose previous collaborations include "New Jack City," "House Party 2," and "Krush Groove," the filmmakers are looking for a fresh new face to play the character of Lyric, the lead female role. "We're looking for someone who not only has screen presence but who can also realistically portray a young woman who is working class. We need a special actress who, in addition to being physically beautiful, is able to convey an earthiness and intelligence."
In addition, the filmmakers are looking to fill several other parts, including: Marty, 18-to-21 year-old sassy, streetwise black female who may be chubby or unconventionally beautiful; Joshua, a handsome black male, 18-to-24 years old to play 19; and Alonzo, an African-American male in his early 20s with chiseled features and a "fierce" look. Experienced actors are a plus; however, the producers are open to newcomers and novices.
The producers will hold an open casting call in Houston on Saturday, July 31, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ensemble Theater, 3535 Main St. (Note: the producers will hold a press conference at 11 a.m. at the Ensemble Theatre.) In addition to Houston, interested actors elsewhere are invited to send a photo and a resume or letter of introduction to: Mail Box Stops, Jason's Lyric Search, P.O. Box. 208, 1453 14th St., Santa Monica, CA 90404.
