PRODUCER HOPES TO SIGN STALLONE TO PLAY FILM'S DISABLED HERO.

Byline: Marilyn Beck & Stacy Jenel Smith

Can you picture Sylvester Stallone playing a hero confined to a wheelchair? Well, producer David Brown David Brown may refer to any of the following people:
  • David Darnell Brown, an American rapper who goes by the name Young Buck, signed to G-Unit Records.
  • David McDowell Brown (1956–2003), American astronaut

 best-selling thriller, ``The Midnight Club.''

Actually, Stallone was supposed to star in the film way back in 1990, but it never happened. Now, when he's at an age where he's been talking about cutting back on some of his big-screen action, and at a point where he's badly in need of a hit, ``The Midnight Club'' sounds like it could be a perfect fit.

Not that it would have Stallone playing a passive hero. Brown tells this column that the book has some scenes that are very physical - one that has the wheelchair-reliant lead character managing to ``lift a drug lord into the air and hoist him into New York's East River.''

If Stallone isn't interested? The filmmaker will be offering the part to Val Kilmer, who stars in ``The Saint,'' which Brown and partner Joe Wizan have going into release March 14. Also upcoming for them: the film adaptation of Patterson's hit ``Kiss the Girls Goodbye,'' starring Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd Ashley Judd (born April 19, 1968) is an American actress. She is perhaps best known for her leading roles in a series of late 1990s and early 2000s thrillers, including Kiss the Girls, Double Jeopardy and High Crimes. .

Brown noted that ``The Verdict'' was in development for over 10 years and quipped, ``Our movies don't get made until they're ready to go into public domain.''

Hello again

Sounds like the tabloids will have to find someone new to track now that Sharon Stone is going back to work with a vengeance. The actress, who hasn't been before the cameras since she made ``The Last Dance'' in 1995 (you'd never guess it, what with gossip headlines keeping her profile so high), is getting ready to make two films back-to-back: Miramax's ``The Mighty'' (which she'll also executive-produce), and ``Fear'' at Warner Bros BROS Brothers

``Law & Order,'' which takes over the choice Thursday night time slot that will temporarily be vacated by ``ER'' next month, is certainly not wasting its shot. The long-running series will be bringing us its first three-episode story March 13, 20 and 27 - and leaving its East Coast roots for the first time as the ``Law'' men become involved in a murder case involving a Hollywood studio chief.

Co-executive producer Ed Sherin, who is also directing the three-parter, reveals that part of what we'll see involves a Dream Team-like assemblage of power defense attorneys. Sherin says, ``We wanted the Dream Team to be beaten by the DA.'' He adds, ``It's important to stress that it's fictional. We don't intend to be sued.'' Sherin notes that the three-parter, which guest stars Janeane Garofalo, does ``take a few shots'' at Hollywood. But he emphasizes, ``It's not a parody.'' Another story line in the three-parter: a sexual harassment sexual harassment, in law, verbal or physical behavior of a sexual nature, aimed at a particular person or group of people, especially in the workplace or in academic or other institutional settings, that is actionable, as in tort or under equal-opportunity statutes.  suit.

Zollo plans to do a string of one-hour productions for HBO with different views of marriage. ``They're all being scripted by writers of consequence,'' he reports. ``One will have to do with a young couple, then there will be one about a couple in early middle age and one in later middle age.''
