PRODIGY ENHANCES BROWSER; SERVICE NOW LINKS MORE THAN 500,000 TO THE WORLD WIDE WEB.

, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 10, 1995--At today's opening of the Internet World trade show in San Jose, Calif., Prodigy Services Company announced that more than 500,000 PRODIGY members have now downloaded its Web browser The program that serves as your front end to the Web on the Internet. In order to view a site, you type its address (URL) into the browser's Location field; for example, www.computerlanguage.com, and the home page of that site is downloaded to you.  software, furthering the company's lead as the world's largest dial-up access hot Dial-up access is a form of Internet access via telephone line. PRODIGY, the first major commercial online service to offer a link to the fastest-growing and most popular area of the Internet, also announced the release of version 1.2e of its Web browser software, the second update to its browser since PRODIGY opened its Web connection on Jan. 17.

Release 1.2e of the browser includes:

-- Adjustable Fonts/Colors -- Web surfers can now choose how they see content by selecting the fonts, text sizes and background colors of documents.

-- E-Mail Link -- Internet E-mail can now be sent from anywhere within PRODIGY's browser, either by selecting the Navigation choice at the top of the screen or by clicking on the E-mail option embedded Inserted into. See embedded system.  in a Web document. When choosing the latter, a pre-addressed Internet E-mail screen pops open, eliminating the need to leave the browser.

-- Forms Support -- PRODIGY's Web browser is now fully forms-capable, including complete form printing and the support of multiple-selection list boxes.

-- Enhanced Scroll Bar A vertical bar on the right side of a window or a horizontal bar at the bottom of a window that is used to move the window contents up and down or left and right. The bar contains a box with square or rounded corners, which together look like an elevator in a shaft.  -- In addition to the standard vertical scroll bar, a horizontal scroll bar is now included so users can easily explore larger images and documents.

-- Enhanced Help -- The online HELP section has been enhanced extensively with keyword search, cross references to all topics and useful graphics. Plus, users now have access to context-sensitive help Context-sensitive help is a kind of online help that is obtained from a specific point in the state of the software, providing help for the situation that is associated with that state.  while using options and set-up choices.

-- Option File Threshold -- Members now have the option of saving large documents to disk, instead of displaying them on sreen.

In addition to the above enhancements, Prodigy recently added other upgrades to its Web browser. They include:

-- Global History -- If a Web user chooses, he or she can turn on a Global History feature that keeps an on-disk track of all Web sites visited in a session. This "electronic trail of bread crumbs" makes it very easy to recall favorite locations visited 10 minutes, 30 minutes or two hours ago.

-- Multiple Hot Lists -- This widely requested enhancement lets members set up multiple hot lists for sports, reference, news, government or other locations regularly visited.

-- Loading Local Pages -- PRODIGY's browser lets users display Web pages stored on a diskette The official name for the floppy disk. See floppy disk.

In a related announcement, Prodigy also has introduced a low-cost combo PRODIGY/Internet pricing plan. The new 30/30 Plan provides 30 hours of monthly usage for $30. That $1/hour rate includes access to the PRODIGY service and its Internet offerings.
