PROBE SOUGHT OF ELECTION FLIERS.

Byline: - Daily News

A resident has asked the District Attorney's Office to investigate whether Conejo Valley school board member Dorothy Beaubien improperly used school supplies in her re-election bid.

``She is using school property to further her own political ambitions and the law says you can't do that,'' said Joy Meade, who mailed her complaint Tuesday to the Ventura County District Attorney's Office. ``It's definitely against the rules.''

Beaubien conceded that an ``overzealous'' school employee - a volunteer on her campaign - had created the fliers and was disciplined by the superintendent for her actions.

``It was a very unfortunate mistake that was corrected before it caused any difficulties,'' Beaubien said of the 3-week-old incident.

She said she ordered all copies of the flier destroyed, although a half-dozen already had been distributed.

``I said do not do anything at the schools,'' Beaubien said. ``I've been around much too long. I would never do a thing like that.''

The District Attorney's Office would not comment on the matter because officials have not seen the complaint.

Meade said two fliers promoting fund-raising events for Beaubien were distributed at school sites. One of the fliers listed a Conejo Adult School employee and the school phone number as a contact.

In her complaint, Meade questioned whether school employees printed the fliers using district materials.

The state Education Code prohibits public funds, services, supplies or equipment from being used for election purposes.
