PRO ACTION MAGAZINE SET TO DEBUT AT SUPER BOWL XXVIII

NEW YORK, Jan 5 /PRNewswire/ -- With a month to go in the NFL regular season, the most popular team in America has already qualified for the Super Bowl: Marvel Comics' mighty mutant X-Men.
Pro Action, a magazine published jointly by NFL Properties, Inc. and Marvel Entertainment Group, Inc., will make a special debut at the Super Bowl in Atlanta in January. A copy of the kickoff issue of Pro Action will be included in GTE's seat cushion premium packs for the more than 71,000 people who will attend Super Bowl XXVIII Jan. 30 in the Georgia Dome.
In addition, Wolverine and Cyclops, two of the Super Hero X-Men, will make special appearances and distribute copies of Pro Action to all who attend "The NFL Experience" -- a celebration of events and activities at the Congress Center in Atlanta from the Thursday before the game through Super Bowl Sunday.
"This is the first time a magazine has been included in the coveted seat cushion premium packs," said Michael Hobson, Marvel group vice president, publishing. "We're delighted that Pro Action will be making such an auspicious debut at the most popular sporting event in the nation."
Pro Action targets pre-teens and teenagers with a broad editorial mix of pop culture, trends, NFL-related topics, and comics. The magazine's debut cover depicts Super Bowl XXVII MVP Troy Aikman confronting the X-Men's premier member Wolverine. In addition to the Aikman profile, the magazine includes a look at the "little people" of the NFL (5-foot-9 and under); the recently revived Punt, Pass & Kick program, spotlighting NFL players who participated in PP&K in their youth; strength tips from Junior Seau of the San Diego Chargers; and an opening day photo feature about San Francisco 49ers rookie Todd Kelly.
The highlight of Pro Action is a 16-page custom comic featuring the Los Angeles Raiders' Howie Long and the X-Men. In the comic, Long beats Wolverine at his own game. Humbled yet inspired by this encounter with the NFL star, Wolverine then takes on the evil Morlocks. Pro Action will also include a Fleer Ultra trading card insert of both NFL superstars and Marvel's most popular Super Heroes.
Pro Action will be available on the newsstand and through a variety of other retail outlets, including comic book specialty stores. It will sell for $2.95.
