PRIVATE SIR ON SEX RAP; Top school claim.

A RETIRED French teacher from one of Scotland's top schools is facing criminal charges over sex abuse allegations dating back more than 40 years.

Guy Anthony Ray-Hills, 77, was charged by police over accusations made by two former pupils last year.

A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.

The alleged sex offences happened when the ex-pupils were aged 11 and 15 between 1958 and 1965 at Loretto School, in Musselburgh.

The claims were made to police last year after film director Don Boyd accused Ray-Hills in a newspaper interview of abusing him while he was at the school.

Loretto School is one of Scotland's oldest independent boarding schools.

Its former pupils include transport secretary Alistair Darling, former Chancellor of the Exchequer Norman Lamont and High Court judges Lords Marnoch and Allanbridge.
