PRITCHETT CHOOSES UCLA; THREE PREP STARS SELECT COLLEGES.

Byline: Vincent Bonsignore Daily News Staff Writer

Three of the area's top prep football players made their college decisions official on Monday.

Kenny Pritchett, Crescenta Valley's record-breaking running back, will attend UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles
UCLA University Center for Learning Assistance (Illinois State University)
UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX
, Taft running back/defensive back Sedric Hurns will play at Hawaii and Quartz Hill defensive back Chris Bishop will go to Utah State.

Pritchett's decision is a dream come true. He gets to play at a school close to his home on a team that he grew up rooting for.

Pritchett chose UCLA over Washington State and Arizona State.

``It's a big relief,'' Pritchett said Monday. ``I liked the UCLA coaches and the school, and I feel like I'll get the chance to play.''

Pritchett was the third-leading rusher in the area last year with 1,812 yards and 22 touchdowns.

``This is a great thing for Kenny,'' said Crescenta Valley The Crescenta Valley is a small inland valley in Los Angeles County, California. Eberhart worried that the Falcons' use of Pritchett over the years - he played quarterback most of his junior season - would prevent him from getting noticed by bigger schools.

However, with his performance this season, Pritchett gained significant attention. He was the Daily News Offensive Player of the Year in 1997.

``We asked him to do some things that may have cost him exposure,'' Eberhart said. ``But to his credit, Kenny stuck with it and things worked out. You can't get any more big-time than UCLA.''

Hurns committed to the University of Hawaii (body, education) University of Hawaii - A University spread over 10 campuses on 4 islands throughout the state.

The Rainbows will give him the chance to compete for playing time in the offensive and defensive backfields.

``Sedric is one of the best football players I have coached here, no doubt about it,'' said Taft coach Troy Starr.

Ghezzi to UCLA: Glendale College offensive lineman Jim Ghezzi, among the most sought-after junior college recruits in the area, has orally committed to UCLA, he said Monday.

Ghezzi, a 6-foot-5, 295-pound tackle, took a recruiting trip to Westwood late last week and told Bruins officials of his decision Sunday.

``They're not going to promise me a starting position,'' Ghezzi said. ``They just said I'd have a great opportunity.''

Ghezzi, who also received offers from Oregon State - which promised him a starting position - and New Mexico, said he will be No. 2 on the depth chart at right tackle when fall practices begin.

``It's what I wanted all along,'' said the Loyola High grad, who played his freshman year at Villanova University Villanova University (vĭl'ənō`və), at Villanova, Pa., near Philadelphia; Roman Catholic; est. 1842 as a men's school, coeducational since 1967.  before transferring to Glendale. ``I think I'm going to be good for them there.''

``I want to go to CSUN because it is close to home and I wanted to stay in California,'' said Pepper, who was also recruited by San Jose State and James Madison. ``I like Ponciano's coaching style and character.''
