The Antelope Valley
 on Friday and dumped several inches of snow in the San Gabriel Mountains San Gabriel Mountains, S Calif., E and NE of Los Angeles, running c.50 mi (80 km) westward from Cajon Pass. Constitutionally, it is a state park. Its namesake is the state flower, the California Poppy.  west of Lancaster.

About 4 inches of snow had fallen by midafternoon at Mountain High ski resort's lodge near Wrightwood, with more at higher elevations and snow still falling heavily, spokesman John McColly said.

``We've got, I'd say, four inches at the base. There's probably five to six inches up top,'' McColly said.

Today's skies are expected to be partly cloudy, with Antelope Valley afternoon temperatures in the 50s. A 40 percent chance of rain returns after midnight Sunday, with a 50 percent chance of rain Monday.

A chance of rain will persist Tuesday and return again Wednesday night, the National Weather Service said.

Friday's rain increased Palmdale's rainfall total since July to 5.24 inches, below the average by this date of 5.6 inches. Rainfall last year at this time amounted to 14.79 inches, the weather service said.
