Variety abounds in the printmaking exhibit, which might be more appropriately characterized as a mixed-media experience. Computer-generated art combines with assemblage and lithographs, and etchings team with screen-printing and huge washes of color not of the white race; - commonly meaning, esp. in the United States, of negro blood, pure or mixed. Bright splashes of color and design predominate in the expressive monoprints of Camarillo artist Shirley Judy. Ojai residents Alberta Fins and Karen Lewis are represented, respectively, by selected monoprints and computer-enhanced etchings. Ventura artists Bruce Freeman and Mary Michel show off big, bold silk-screen prints indulged in rich color. Intricate etchings and a delightful lithograph titled ``David'' are the contribution of Ventura artist Carol Rosenak. ``Nine Lives of Johnny Gomez'' is a scaled-down version of an original creation by Ventura artist Richard Peterson. Elements of assemblage and digitized color images tell the fictional story of a young Latino's triumphs and tragedies. Incorporating the computer in his artistic process came about as an accidental matter of course, according to Peterson. The artist had been using the machine exclusively for word processing until a colleague persuaded him to experiment with a computerized painting program. ``If someone had said to do art on a computer, I would have said, `That's blasphemous blas·phe·mous adj. Impiously irreverent. [Middle English blasfemous, from Late Latin blasph ,' '' Peterson said, laughing. The artist has a patent pending on a special computerized color printing process that he has invented. ``Cholo For the Choloa language, see . For the 1986 video game, see . Cholo, broadly, is a term applied to persons of mixed Amerindian and Spanish ancestry. However, its precise usage has varied widely in different times and places. Two Bruce Freeman works bearing the title ``Sumo'' exude ex·ude v. To ooze or pass gradually out of a body structure or tissue. warmth and movement. The larger piece, screen-printed onto six panels, shows a generous overlay of butterscotch but·ter·scotch n. 1. A syrup, sauce, candy, or flavoring made by melting butter and brown sugar together. 2. A golden or tawny brown. and raspberry paint over metallic paper. Light play on the layered colors lends a lively character to the figure of a sumo wrestler, and depth to the otherwise flat surface. Ventura artist Lindsay Scott is known worldwide for her Mylar lithographs and paintings of animals. ``For each color, a separate drawing is done on Mylar,'' she explained. ``You have to picture in your mind where the different colors go.'' Scott's realistic ``Jazz Ponies'' and ``Mystic Morn'' are fine examples of the painstaking lithographic lith·o·graph n. The results are dynamic, lifelike renderings of animals that look as if they could walk out of their frames.
