In 2007, she was transferred to Princess Cruises after a refitting. She was built as R Eight as part of 8 identical cruise ships originally ordered by Renaissance Cruises. . The ceremony announced this week is scheduled for May 12 on the Greek island of Santorini. The simultaneous namings will take place May 12, 2007 and will be the first double ship launch for Princess. The ships will be among the cruise line's largest and smallest vessels. Both ships are due to begin sailing in Europe in April with a series of Mediterranean itineraries that include the Greek isles, Crimean Coast, Egypt and the Holy Land, and a number of new ports on the Adriatic Sea Adriatic Sea (ādrēă`tĭk), arm of the Mediterranean Sea, between Italy and the Balkan Peninsula. It extends c.500 mi (800 km) from the Gulf of Venice, at its head, SE to the Strait of Otranto, which leads to the Ionian Sea. . Santorini, recently voted by Travel & Leisure magazine as Europe's top island, is a featured call on five Princess itineraries.
