In a first for Princess Cruises Princess Cruises is an American cruise line, based out of Santa Clarita, California, that operates cruise ships also shares the same building with Cunard Line headquarters. It is one of the many cruise lines operated by the Carnival Corporation. , the Valencia-based company will host a dual christening christening: see baptism.  -- formally launching its 3,100-passenger Emerald Princess Emerald Princess is a Grand Class cruise ship for Princess Cruises that entered service in April 2007. Her sister ships include Caribbean Princess and Crown Princess. She features two nightclubs, a piazza style atrium, multiple pools and hotubs, a spa, and a gym.  and the 710-passenger Royal Princess Royal Princess is a cruise ship previously operating as Minerva II for Swan Hellenic. In 2007, she was transferred to Princess Cruises after a refitting.

She was built as R Eight as part of 8 identical cruise ships originally ordered by Renaissance Cruises.

The ceremony announced this week is scheduled for May 12 on the Greek island of Santorini. The simultaneous namings will take place May 12, 2007 and will be the first double ship launch for Princess. The ships will be among the cruise line's largest and smallest vessels.

Both ships are due to begin sailing in Europe in April with a series of Mediterranean itineraries that include the Greek isles, Crimean Coast, Egypt and the Holy Land, and a number of new ports on the Adriatic Sea Adriatic Sea (ādrēă`tĭk), arm of the Mediterranean Sea, between Italy and the Balkan Peninsula. It extends c.500 mi (800 km) from the Gulf of Venice, at its head, SE to the Strait of Otranto, which leads to the Ionian Sea. .

The event also marks the first cruise-ship christening held in Greek waters. Santorini, recently voted by Travel & Leisure magazine as Europe's top island, is a featured call on five Princess itineraries. Both Emerald Princess and Royal Princess will make regular visits to the picturesque island throughout the Europe cruise season.
