Figure skating figure skating

Sport in which ice skaters, singly or in pairs, perform various jumps, spins, and footwork. The figure skate blade has a special serrated toe pick, or toe rake, at the front.

Yes, it's just a stupid exhibition - the champions gala, they call it - but there's enough gaga ga·ga
adj. Informal
1. Silly; crazy.

2. Completely absorbed, infatuated, or excited: They were gaga over the rock group's new album.

3. Senile; doddering.
for the network to dish off most of the other gold- medal finals to its cable partners and stretch this one out. If they can guarantee a lot of falls, maybe we'll watch NBC's answer to ``Skating With the Stars,'' which comes without the possibility of seeing Erik Estrada doing a triple-toe loop paired up with that angry Italian ice dancer woman.

Curling

Any kind of medal here would be a first for a American team, and the men have a decent shot at bronze if it can get past a bunch of rowdy Scottish guys (think Groundskeeper Willy with a broom) who happen to be representing Great Britain. Men's hockey

Don't be distracted by some women's biathlon biathlon (bīăth`lŏn), sport in which cross-country skiers race across hilly terrain, occasionally stopping to shoot with rifles at sets of fixed targets. The biathlon features the 10-km (6.  relay final that might seem to have more pizzaz than these two Euro-heavy semifinal matches.

Speedskating

When Chad Hedrick won the 5,000 meters way last week, there was talk he could take home five gold medals. Then came Shani Davis - or rather, he didn't come, there was no team pursuit gold and ... it just got messy. For this men's 10,000-meter gold-medal race, Hedrick has one last chance for his second gold, and Davis, who has gone home, won't be around to congratulate him.
