Versatile Gaffney is re-signed by Patriots

The New England Patriots re-signed veteran wide receiver Jabar Gaffney. The 27-year-old Gaffney played four seasons with Houston before he signed with the Patriots as a free agent in October 2006. Last season, he played in 16 games with seven starts and caught 36 passes for 449 yards and a career-high five touchdowns. In his career, he has caught 218 passes for 2,600 yards and 13 TDs. His 36 receptions last season tied for fifth on the team, while his five touchdown catches ranked fourth on the club. Coach Bill Belichick said Gaffney is a good fit for the Patriots' offense, calling him versatile and dependable.
