PRIOR TO OPENING OF THE ECONOMIC SUMMIT
MUNICH, Germany, July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Prior to the opening session of the Economic Summit here today, President George Bush participated in the formal signing of a declaration between South Carolina and BMW AG for the factory BMW will build at the Greenville Spartanburg Airport.
The document was signed by Carroll A. Campbell Jr., governor of South Carolina, and Eberhard von Kuenheim, chairman of BMW AG.
"BMW will begin to create American jobs already in the next few weeks, prior to the official groundbreaking in October. Our investment in South Carolina will allow us to become corporate manufacturing citizens, and Mr. President, we will be exemplary citizens," noted von Kuenheim at the signing. "The combination of engineered by BMW- manufactured in the U.S. will be successful worldwide," he added.
Karl H. Gerlinger, president of BMW of North America, who also participated in the signing, said, "What better timing and location could there be for this important signing than at the beginning of the Economic Summit in BMW's hometown with the president of the United States. This investment shows BMW's total commitment to the U.S. market and its full faith in the American work force," he added.
