Once the most feared program in Southern Section Division IV - it won the dual team section tournament in 1997 and was runner-up the previous two seasons - Highland is seeded eighth for the 16-team dual tournament today at Workman WORKMAN. If the Bulldogs (21-6) beat ninth-seeded Diamond Ranch in the opener at 11 a.m., the Bulldogs probably will face top-seeded Bishop Amat (18-1) in the quarterfinals. Highland coach Mike Young was on the seeding committee.

``We're 21-6, and I tried to be as fair as I could,'' Young said. ``We're lower than usual, but what's important is what happens that day. I think we're peaking at the right time, so I'm definitely not counting us out.''

Highland faced tougher nonleague competition than usual before sweeping its Golden League opponents - the Bulldogs are 43-0 in the league since joining it in 1992 - for their ninth consecutive league title. The Bulldogs crowned eight champions in 14 weight classes at last Saturday's Golden League individual finals.

Three-time league champion Mike Estrada (33-8, 17 pins) and regional pin leader Dustin Alleman (35-7, 28 pins) are Highland's top wrestlers. Estrada, a 112-pounder, is seeking his third consecutive 40-win season. Alleman, 145, averages 4.6 points per match.

Highland's other Golden League champions are Peter Ortiz-Eyritch (140), Chris Culotta (152), Jose Shaw (160), Brad Wolfenstein (171) and Roland Ortiz-Eyritch (215).
