PREP TRACK NOTEBOOK: SHE HAS NO TIME TO GET BORED HIGHLAND'S JACKSON FILLS ROSTER OF EVENTS.

Byline: Matthew Kredell Staff Writer

Many top athletes compete in four events at postseason meets, but few do it like Lizelle Jackson Jackson.

The Highland senior doesn't enter events that are over after one short race. She gets most of her running going back and forth among the pole vault pole vault

, high jump and shot put.

Jackson won the pole vault and high jump at the Golden League finals Friday and qualified for the Southern Section Div. I prelims in all three events. She also was part of the 400 relay team that did not qualify.

``Running back and forth and trying not to get scratched is the hardest part,'' Jackson said.

The pole vault and high jump are Jackson's main events. She expected to win those but was surprised to qualify in the shot put, which she has been doing for only one year.

It's going to be another busy day for Jackson on Friday at the Southern Section Division I prelims. She plans to remain in all three events.

``I get bored with things,'' Jackson said. ``I can't just concentrate on one thing. I like to do a lot of different things. It gives me more energy. I'm already hyped up hyped up

Crimes won the 100 and 300 hurdles along with the 100 meters. She might have been able to win 200 meters, too. However, she had to run it two minutes after completing the 300 hurdles and finished third with a nonqualifying time.

As a freshman, Crimes won the 100 hurdles. She thinks her best chance to advance past the Southern Section prelims is in the 300 hurdles, which is ironic because it is the event she enjoys the least.

Crimes thinks she will be able to improve her times this round and advance.

``In the Golden League finals, it was really windy and conditions were not all that great,'' she said. ``I think I have a better chance in the Southern Section prelims and that my time will go down drastically dras·tic

--No petition: Larry Cotton was well on his way to winning the 200 meters at the Golden League finals before pulling up in the last 15 meters when he re-injured his hamstring hamstring /ham·string/ (ham´string) one of the tendons bounding the popliteal space laterally and medially.

Cotton first strained his hamstring in Tennessee during a meet April 19. He continued to run in league meets and didn't think it would be a problem.

Now Cotton, who was undefeated in both the 100 and 200 entering the league finals, might not be able to compete in the Southern Section prelims Friday. He qualified in the 400 relay and the 100 meters, despite finishing second to teammate Jerry Williams

Highland coaches were talking about petitioning to include Cotton in the 200 but have backed off because of his health. Coach Martin Prince said it won't be known until Thursday or Friday if Cotton is healthy enough to run the 100 and relay.
