WALNUT - Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. In the United States of America, Notre Dame  of Sherman Oaks senior Rodney Glass admitted something seemed off when he stepped into the starting blocks Saturday afternoon in preparation for the boys' 100-meter dash at the 48th annual Mount San Antonio Mount San Antonio, better known to most in Los Angeles as Old Baldy or Mount Baldy, is the highest peak in the San Gabriel Mountains of Southern California, USA and the highest point in Los Angeles County. Running from Lane 4, he glanced over his right shoulder to discover Taft of Woodland Hills star Jamere Holland - a childhood friend and defending state champion at 100 and 200 - would not be competing from Lane 5 as scheduled.

Glass, the state runner-up to Holland in the 100 last year, regrouped just fine, finishing first with a personal-best of 10.38 - the 11th-fastest time in state history and just off the 10.36 Holland ran at the Arcadia Invitational on April 8.

"I've put in a lot of work for this time," said Glass, the second-place finisher in the 200, whose previous best in the event was 10.43. "But it has a lot to do with how my coaches and teammates have pushed me. It's unfortunate that Jamere was unable to race. He's one heck of a track and field athlete, and we always wish each other the best of luck."

Taft sprints coach Richard Rucker Richard Parnell Rucker Sr. is a former Twin Cities school instructor who was accused, in May 2006, of having sexual contact with two female students. "Our handoffs were extremely clean today - we rolled," said Barton, the third-place finisher in the 400, who watched 2004 Olympic 100-meter gold medalist Justin Gatlin run an anchor leg in the elite division seconds earlier. "It's amazing to run in the same meet as a runner of that caliber."
