PREP SOCCER: BOYS: NOTRE DAME ABLE TO MEASURE UP ST. FRANCIS 0, NOTRE DAME 0.

Byline: Matthew Kredell Staff Writer

St. Francis and Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. In the United States of America, Notre Dame  have come to the point where there is no satisfaction to be taken from a tie.

It doesn't matter that Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks tied a higher-ranked team. It makes no difference that St. Francis of La Canada Flintridge remained undefeated and barely escaped the first overtime unscathed.

The teams tied for the second time this year and 11th combined Thursday, this time 0-0 after two overtimes and 100 minutes of play in a Mission League game at St. Francis.

``This was a tie that really bothered us,'' St. Francis coach Glen Appels said. ``We had a lot of chances and didn't get it done.''

St. Francis controlled the ball most of the game and had one shot go off the crossbar and another off the corner post. But Notre Dame had the best scoring chance of the night.

No. 7 Notre Dame (8-3-5, 2-1-4) is fourth in the league and wouldn't make the playoffs if the season ended today. But the Knights have tied all three teams in front of them, including St. Francis twice.

``Our biggest problem is that we can't finish,'' Notre Dame coach Rene Velado said. ``Neither team, we couldn't finish.''
