PREP ROUNDUP: TUBERT RALLIES, TIES FOR SECOND.Emily Tubert, a sophomore at Burroughs High of Burbank, shot a 1-over 75 to finish tied for second place in the L.A. City Junior Championships on Monday on the Wilson Golf Course at Griffith Park. Lee Lopez, a senior at La Serna High School in Whittier, won the L.A. City Junior Championships by three strokes. BASEBALL Cleveland 5, Sierra Vista 4 (9 innings): Danny Vidales drove in Juan Perez with two outs in the ninth inning to give Cleveland of Reseda a win over Sierra Vista in pool play of the Durango tournament in Las Vegas. Perez, who had two hits in the game, led off the ninth inning with a single and came around to score the winning run. In other games, Chatsworth defeated Las Vegas Bonanza, 18-2; San Fernando defeated Flowing Wells of Arizona, 4-2 and lost to Sierra Vista, 7-1. Granada Hills 3, Boulder Creek (Ariz.) 0: Nathan Davis pitched a three-hit shutout for his first win of the season in the first round of San Diego Lions Tournament. Crespi 5, Santa Monica 0: Tyler Johnson pitched six shutout innings and struck out nine in a nonleague win over Santa Monica. SOFTBALL Viewpoint 11, Our Savior New American of New York 0: Blaire Berka pitched a five-inning no-hitter for her first win of the season in a nonleague game against Our Savior New American of New York. Berka (1-1) struck out 10 and walked only one batter. |
