All the above-mentioned areas she's progressed in came together for Friga on Monday at the Southern Section's Southern Division individual championships at Soboda Springs Country Club in Mt. Its chief tributary is Buffalo Bayou, and both the bayou and the lower river are used for the Houston ship channel. .

Friga, who shot a 78 on the 18-hole par-72 course, was the Golden League's only golfer to qualify for Thursday's Southern Section individual-championship round at Diamond Bar Country Club.

Quartz Hill junior Katie Dilger shot a 78, and Lancaster's Amber Frauhiger shot a 100.

``For a girl to go from being our No. 4 golfer last year to (the Southern Section championships), that's a huge accomplishment,'' Quartz Hill coach Stu Manthey said.

Friga finished strong, shooting 1-under-par over her final five holes, including shooting a birdie on the last hole.

Friga had shot bogies on her previous four holes before her late run.

Her performance Monday typified the progression of her career.

``More than anything it's been her mental game that's developed, especially in the last few weeks,'' Manthey said. ``I was just really proud of the way she sees battle. It just seemed like she refocused the rest of the way.''

Friga is among 90 golfers who will compete in Thursday's Southern Section final, of which 28 advance to Monday's Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California.
