PREP FOOTBALL: SHEASLEY GETS BIG COMPETITION : BORON STANDOUT TO JOIN LARGE-SCHOOL PLAYERS FOR ALL-STAR GAME.

Byline: Gerry Gittelson Daily News Staff Writer

Richie Sheasley of Boron boron (bōr`ŏn) [New Gr. from borax], chemical element; symbol B; at. no. 5; at. wt. 10.81; m.p. about 2,300°C;; sublimation point about 2,550°C;; sp. gr. 2.3 at 25°C;; valence +3.  High, the Daily News small-schools football Player of the Year, finally gets his chance to hang with the big boys.

The 6-foot-4, 200-pound wide receiver/defensive back will join 74 graduating seniors from Littlerock, Palmdale, Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

The Antelope Valley
and other large schools participating in the third annual High Desert All-Star Football Game on June 12 (7 p.m. kickoff) at Palmdale High.

Sheasley, who said he has run the 40 in 4.61, scored 26 touchdowns to carry Boron to a Division XII championship last fall. He finished his career with 30 interceptions, second best in California history.

He will be breaking new ground: No Boron player has ever participated in the game, partly because the school is more than an hour's drive from Palmdale.

Sheasley, who said he plans to play at UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles
UCLA University Center for Learning Assistance (Illinois State University)
UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX
after one or two years at Bakersfield College BC was founded in 1913 and initially housed on the campus of Bakersfield High School (then Kern County Union High School) before moving in 1956 to its current location "on the hill" in northeast Bakersfield.  to improve his grades, has never taken part in the annual High Desert combine but did participate in a combine in Colorado last year.

Still, there has always been a question about just how good he is because he hasn't faced large-school opposition.

``I follow up on players from all the other schools and I think they have been following me, too,'' Sheasley said. ``Yes, they're from bigger schools, but I think I can perform.

``I would have loved to play football just one year for a big school. It would have meant much better competition.''

The game will be East versus West, with Littlerock offensive coordinator An offensive coordinator typically refers to the coach on a football team in the National Football League or College football who is in charge of the offense. This position aids the head coach by designing and scripting plays, delegating work to offensive position coaches during  Vince Lipari coaching the East and Lancaster head coach Ray DeShane coaching the West.

Littlerock head coach Jim Bauer, who coached last year, said he designated responsibility to Lipari because Bauer wants to focus his attention on his own program.

The game has been moved from July to June to increase interest, Bauer said. Attendance should be better than in previous years because school is still in session the week of the game.

Players from Littlerock, Palmdale, Antelope Valley, Mojave, Desert, Vasquez and Boron compose the East. The West includes Quartz Hill, Lancaster, Highland, Paraclete, Antelope Valley, Rosamond, Antelope Valley Christian and Bethel Bethel, in the Bible

Running back Bruce Molock of Antelope Valley is the most prominent player on the East. He has signed with Cal State Northridge after gaining nearly 1,400 yards for the Antelopes.

All-Southern Section defensive back Ronnell Tyars from Antelope Valley also is on the roster, along with Littlerock's standout linebacker tandem of Mike Arvizo and Adam Fabela, and two Palmdale players, quarterback Johnathan Thompson and running back Marquis Murray.
